Need help on LED
Need help on LED
i have a question. Ok so i wanted to change my license plate light bulb to LED. i purchased a 67 bulb which is a small version of a 1156. looks like this : http://www.hidlightsusa.com/images/g18-9w_sample.jpg
when i recieved it, i pluged it in the brake lights to see if it works first since its similiar to 1156. and they worked so i pluged it into the license plate and of course you dunno if it works till nighttime. Only it didnt turn on. Can someone help me out, is there something else im suppose to be doing. The bulbs work find, theres nothing wrong with my wiring or anything. put the OEM bulbs back they work. The LEDs work but for some reason the LED bulbs do not work for the license plate. Someone give me some imput!

first, pull out a multimeter, and make sure the socket is getting good power. next, make sure the polarity is correct; normal LEDs are one way. if the negative end is put to the positive, and vice-versa, it would not work. not sure these bulbs would be much different.
you said the bulb worked in the brake socket, compare voltages and polarity from there.

Considering LEDs require less power than incandescent bulbs I would doubt power is the issue and I think its gonna be more of a reverse polarity thing here or the bulb is not quite making contact like it should
Either the LED can be removed from the base, or it has been put together wrong if there is a polarity issue, since the casing is Ground and the single pin on the bottom is +12V, I would say more likely a bad contact (bad socket) or a faulty unit.
hmmm as for polarity, theres only one polarity so theres no way + and - can be reversed. i put the OEM bulbs back it it works just find and the LED bulbs work just fine. not really sure what to do.
then the connector at the plate is probably a bit corroded and you aren't making contact because the connections on the LED base vs the OEM base are off by a bit from one another. it does happen
here... lemme draw you a picture.

if the polarity is backwards, an LED will not work. test the connector for the license plate for polarity. Test using a multimeter!
