Need rear hub help! Pics of 18s inside

Ok so today I got around to replacing one of my rear drums and when I put everything back together now I hear a clank every wheel rotation coming from the wheel. I took off the drum and checked the hub everything seems good. I didnt mess with the shoes because those had been replaced not too long ago. And it doesnt make a noise in reverse for some reason. Any ideas?

Is the wheel on when it makes the noise or are you just spinning the drum?
Are you sure it didn't always make the noise and you just never noticed it from inside the car? Simply pulling a drum off and putting back on should not have caused any kind of noises.

The drum was worn out so I replaced it with a new one. It does not make the noise with the wheel bolted to the hub in the air but when i lower it and drive on it, it makes the noise. The hub spins freely.

Sounds like you may have bent the dust shield in and it is rubbing every revolution. Not sure other than that.

I would take the drum off, inspect the dust shield. Any dents you see, bang it out with a brass hammer. Then take the car for a spin again. Trial and error until the noise goes away.

make sure you didnt put a spring on backwards. ive done that before, made noise while applying brake and while rotating normally.

No spring on backwards even took off new drum put old one back on same thing. Tried prying dust cover away a little around the entire edge. Rim spins completely free in the air as soon as I put weight on it, it starts the clack. Maybe I dont have the drums on tight enough? Is there a any particular spot i should check on my dust shield? Could the dust shield even be the problem if the rim spins freely in the air? Shouldnt my lugs tighten the drum to the hub? Did my hub go bad? There is no play when I put the wheel on and try to shake it. Any other suggestions

never done it before, but this is what i think the basic procedure is
  1. set handbrake
  2. chock front wheels (becase of step 7)
  3. lift car (both rear wheels is probably best)
  4. remove wheel
  5. pry off copper-colored-but-not-actually-copper cap thingy in the middle
  6. remove cotter pin and nut, dunno what size socket
  7. release ebrake
  8. remove brake stuff to reveal hub
  9. pull hub off

Update I just replaced the shoes, wheel cylinder, and brake hardware just because it is cheap. No difference. Here is my theory. During removal of the old drum i had to hit the drum with a hammer to get it off the hub. This action caused the outter bearing to break. The inner is still in tact. When I turn the wheel it will clack if it is on the outside of the turn meaning more force applied to the hub. If it is on the inside no clack. So this brings me back full circle to hub. Comments please.

IMO... if the outer bearing broke it would howl or moan when driving not "clack". You may want to try another hub assembly from junk yard because you can't get just the rear bearings these things seem to last forever. Also you better take a very close look at good side and make sure you don't have something simple like a spring backwards or something.

Fist off thanks to everyone who replied. Im just gonna buy a napa hub tomorrow and replace it. Now my question is, is there only that one 30mm nut holding the hub assembly in? Or do I have to take the brakes apart again and get to those 4 bolts behind the shoes?

No, those 4 bolts just hold the dust shield on. Hub will come off after you take axle nut off.

So my buddy from the dealership says the hub is machine pressed in and not just the 30mm nut. Has anyone ever replaced the rear hub? I know one of you guys have done it before so please tell me whats involved.

you can remove the hub with the 30mm nut. he was probably thinking of the front, where just removing the nut lets you take the CV axle out, but doesn't let the hub loose. The rear wheel bearing/hub are bought pre-pressed.. you just replace the whole thing together.

If had a buddy at a dealership he would be doing the work on the side not me...trust me take the nut off and hub will come off, bearings are pressed in the hub, like Caped said he is thinking of the front.
