You mean WHEEL studs?
if you have the factory dust shields on, you can't pull them without pulling the hub I don't think. I've cut the dust shields off and have plenty of room tho.

Tire studs implies studs on tires, like winter tires.

you can do it if the dust shields are notched with a grinder to make room for them to come out.

when i put all new front studs on back in september:

see the notch between the mounting holes for the brakes? anyhow, i just sprayed everything with PB blaster (even the new studs), and put the hub onto a wheel and just bought 2 spare lugnuts and tightened them down through the wheel. I didn't take the old ones out.. the hubs belonged to Goon previously, who had his own superlong wheel studs for his spacer'd wheels, and he kept those studs.

no, that was just cuz it had a re4f02a. mine died at 15% throttle leaving the highway and getting onto the local route.

That blows - I hope there was at least some warning and you could make it home really slow at least.

nope. it went from being 100% fine to 100% dead instantaneously. i had just enough speed (40mph) to coast across 4 lanes and onto a side street. then i called a friend and we pushed it into a parking lot (engine running so we at least had powersteering & power brakes). that's how come i did the 5spd swap in the middle of winter (just 6 days after i bought the parts car) instead of doing it in april or may like i'd originally planned to. then i swapped again for a VLSD 8 months later. which is when i had to do wheel studs, cuz the first set of VE hubs i got had crap wheel bearings and i didn't feel like using the crusty rusty old wheel studs over again.

I think that removing the wheel studs from the front or back hubs requires a complete tear-down of the assembly. I don't remember which though. I am positive that when I put 60mm extended studs on I had to completly tear down two of the assemblies, that's for sure.

had to be the rears. you can't tear the fronts apart without a press.

Yeah it was the fronts... I have a 5 ton press for bearing jobs and other random rigged up jobs. My favorite is using sets of different sized sockets to pop out bushings and things, can't tell you how many time's I've done that.

the rear hub can be unbolted off the car so there's plenty of room for rear studs.

For sure...I think it's one tool every home mechanic needs but doesn't know it. Use it once, it pays for itself. Like a ShamWOW.
