Once my car reaches 2k rpms it feels like it hits a wall!!

Maybe one of you guys can diagnose my problem. I have started to notice my car feeling sluggish/hesitant when I first start to accelerate from a stop. I will gas the car and when it hits 2k rpm or so its like it hits a wall...it won't move. Then I give it more gas and then it takes off. One thing I have always noticed about my car is that when I rev it in neutral I see the tach needle slightly hesitate at 2k rmps.

The only things I can think of are their the spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel hoses, or maybe God forbbid the tranny. All I know is that I never gapped my spark plugs when I bought them like a year and a half ago. How important is it to gapp the plugs?? I might replace them just for the hell of it...being that ngk plugs are cheap anyway.

Please give me any advice...thanks, Kevin
