you dont have to hose it down though, the 'safer' option is to use the degreaser with a scrub pad and give the valve covers, intake manifold etc some elbow grease then blot it all up with damp shop towels & dry
ive used gunk engine degreaser then power wash/hose everything down, but be careful of wires, wire harnesses, battery, alternator etc... I usually remove the battery and cover the alternator and be mindful not to soak the wires/harneses

Moving right along...
I used the Duplicolor wheel paint found at shucks, or autozone to paint the valve cover and IM. I used high temp engine primer and clear coat though, which I would not recommend, stick to the wheel primer and clear though. If you don't bake the engine paint it will chip while you reinstall the parts.
