LESSON LEARNED

I just wanted to share this mishap with you all that cost me a $1050.00 ( I bought another Jspec with 40,000 miles on it) I have an 89 Max with a 94 VG30E engine and it ran fine but had an annoying exhaust leak due to a valve cover leak. I replace both gaskets but removed the distributor to do the valve cover gasket without marking it (bad move). In an effort to find TDC on cylinder no.1, I had the wife hold a screw while I bump the starter, she let the screw rest in the head close to the cylinder wall and catastrophe. The piston hit the screw driver breaking it inside , scratched the cylinder wall deep and damage the combustion chamber. I remove the head to find the broken piece of the screw driver lodge in my exhaust valve and the cylinder wall ruined.
LESSON LEARNED:
1. Always rotate the engine by hand and use something larger like a ratchet, which manual suggested.
2. Have someone mechanically incline to help you.
3. Mark the distributor when removing it for this type of task.
4. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS…..LOL

Damn that sucks. Sometimes common sense goes out the window and it bites you every time. Hard way to learn a lesson though.

sorry to hear but **** happens. don't worry we have all been through similar if not worse situations. it just wasn't your day. but you learn from your mistakes, thats the only way you will learn.
