1990 GXE Sun Roof Seal?...
1990 GXE Sun Roof Seal?...
Ok,.. I did some searching on here this morning,..but haven't really found a "firm" answer yet..
Since it looks like my Max will be back on the road here this week sometime,..(
)
Well I'll be needing to take care of my SunRoof leak,.. I can physically see the corrigated rubber type seal,.. and that it is deteriorating /cracked/ split .. So, my question is this:
Can this seal be replaced, and is it available from the dealer (or aftermarket?)
Also, in a couple of the threads that I was reading, someone made mention that there is drain for the sunroof? ... and that it needed to be cleaned as this could cause leaking problems as well (???) ... if so, where are these drains located (Front,..back,..side??) ..
I'm pretty sure that it's my "seal",.. but I'm all about being as thorough as possible
Thanks in advance,
Rick

The stealership could get them in no doubt, or http://www.courtesyparts.com/ , there's a few places you could buy them, or even find a business that sells water seals, its probably a generic / pre-exsisting type of seal at a custom length, cheap.
The drains run fowards, down both "A" Pillars, they rarely get clogged, but when they do and water builds up, you get all sorts of nasty problems, rust and heavy interior damage. If you pull the entire roof apart just over the seal, put in the extra 10 minutes and clean the drains out, if not, just run some water down it and look and listen for any leaks on either side, shouldnt be anything to worry about.
If it ever does become a problem, just carefully run some bad-***-drain-clearing-detergant-type-crap down it (down the drain, dont spill any on the paint or anywhere else).

the seal on the glass itself is not available separately.
I have had issue where my glass was not flush in height with the rest of the roof and therefore leaked. I had to add shims to make it flush and then it sealed fine.

Yeah,.. it looks like I was talking about the seal that is attached to the sunroof glass it's self
... I took some vasaline around it to soften it up a bit,.. but I'm not sure if that'll do the trick or not.. it looks like it's position is fine though

I had a problem with a leaky moon roof too. I shot compressed air down the front drains (you can see a hole on either side of the track towards the front), and that did not fix my problem. I found my problem after reading other peoples posts about the drain that comes down behind the right rear wheel. If you take your jack out you can see the line running down to the bottom of the quarter panel, it has a metal connector that the antenna breather/drain also hooks too. It's that connector that rusts and gets clogged. Pull that off of the car and clean it out and make sure your rear drains are not plugged as well.
