speedometer going crazy

its a 90 se, the thing is i can be driving it and will be keeping a constant speed and the needle will start jerking from say 20mph faster to 20 mph slower.. Another thing is that sometimes it will work imediatly after startup and pulling out and other time i might drive 5 miles before it decides to work, i am leaning toward speed sensor but don't really know !!

i'd have to concur on the speed sensor. you may be able to fix the sensor by pushing on the topmost part that sticks out of the trans. Sometimes that piece will pop up causing issues.

center section of what? the gauge cluster? he said "part that sticks out of the trans", which, last time i looked, my gauge cluster was not sticking out of my transmission....

just go look at your speed sensor sortof close to where your steering linkage comes through the firewall) and see if the black cap popped up or if it's still attached.

then i guess you have to get another sensor. fortunately they're pretty easy to swap.. just a single 10mm bolt and one plug.

see unfortunately, the fact that your cruise control doesn't work makes it harder to conclusively say what the problem is. my speedometer jumped around, and was the gauge (replaced a black w/ a black in 07... then switched to whiteface in 08 and the first white speedo failed too)

replacing either part will hopefully either fix it or let you know it was the other one... findin out what's wrong with your cruise control, however, would make the diagnosis more likely to be accurate the first time.
