About to rebuild vg auto any advice on this kit or anything?

Well old lady maxima didn't like running low on fluid cause of a blown line causing her to run low 5qt. So slipping pretty bad. I found this kit here. Any one had personal experience with it or advice before I get to far into this. I am going to order the book they offer too. Ive done manual transmissions but this will be my first auto rebuild. Paying someone is out of the question money tight for me and her.

Will you have access to a second car during this repair....that you can use to go to work etc....?

If not, then I wouldn't get into it. It's pretty involved. OR You'd be better off buying a JY tranny (or one from a parts car) for temp use, then overhaul yours while you car is still running...or overhaul the unknown one you buy. Basically, you need 2 trannies, unless your OK with leaving your car on jackstands like in the ghetto when someone robs wheels off the car and leaves it on blocks

Point #1, don't go into an auto trans rebuild being afraid of it, it's nothing hard.

Personally, I'd rebuild 10 more autos before I rebuilt another manual, but that's just me. I find the auto so much easier

Works for me, it's been a while since I've rebuilt an auto...might as well relearn my skillz (yea, that's right) with a severely screwed up VG 4AT design.

Seriously, pan on the top? What the hell?

I went through 4 autos in my A32 before I finally said screw it and threw in a 5 speed.

Should've just done it from the beginning...

i'm on the opposite end of the spectrum..drove a manual trans for nearly 20 years, I'm tired of shifting. I wouldn't mind having a manual toy tool around in for leisure, but never again for a daily driver..

My A32 is for sale for a mere $13k, fastest car on the planet.

Comes with a free bridge, located in San Francisco.

A good set of snap ring pliers help. A good set of picks as well, and lots and lots of degreaser/cleaner.

A clean trans is a happy trans, heh.

You might need a spring compressor. Look through the SSTs and skim through the overhaul section of the FSM, it'll say what is needed, really.

one other recommendation is to have some assemblee goo

or

you use it to keep checkballs in place rather than falling out while you are rebuilding it

Ah right, one of those things I always took for granted.

Always used this stuff, myself:

You could just use vaseline, if you've got that laying around.

any real difference between blue and green? and is it for M/T as well or just a/t? that stuff would be useful for the roller bearings on the reverse idler gear in the VE5 trans...

that one isn't recommended because of it's color. Shops got away from using red because it made it tougher to see whether there was a leak (red trans fluid) or just some of that where it shouldn't have been.

temperature usage is the difference. one id for all seasons the other for winter. I would be very careful using it in a manual trans as it is designed to dissolve under heat. A M/T doesn't get as hot as a A/T (I think)
