corner lights wiring question

I'd like to rewire the corner/clearance lights on my 91 GXE so that not only will they get brighter when the turn signal comes on, but I also want to be able to have a separate switch so that I can make them brighter whenever I want.

The long way to do it is to send a couple of wires thru the firewall from a new switch right to the lights, but I'd like to rewire them from inside the cabin to avoid all that. Which wires need to be crossed to do that? thanks

PS - I don't want the turn signals on too when i flip this new switch

ask benstoked for a scan of the "clearance/corner lamp" page from the pre-92 FSM he has. i i'm pretty sure that it is not the same as it is on the 92+... also i always thought it would be nice if they went on full-bright whenever you activated the highbeams.

I already have the FSM for my '91, but didn't want to start cutting wires w/o consulting here first. That's another good idea with the highbeams.

k well scan the page and post it (decently high resolution so you might need to post just a link) and i'll look at it. but it has to be a 89-91 fsm... the fsm most of us have is from a 94, which is good except for a few things that are different from one year to the next.

no scanner, but I'll take a few good pics of it in bright lighting. which sections/diagrams would you specifically need to see?

EL-38 (assuming page #s are the same as the 94 FSM) "Cornering Lamp/Wiring Diagram". it is possible for the diagram to be identical to the 92+ but i somehow doubt it. we shall see.....

I'll post it to a link on cardomain.com but there pictures don't enlarge that much. If you'd prefer, PM me your email address and I'll attach it. I get home from work at 7 EDT and will do it then. thanks

Below is the link for the cornering lamp wiring diagram from my 89 FSM.

Again, where would I tap into (iow what 2 wires do I need to cross) behind the dash in order to make each cornering lamp illuminate? The plan is to have 2 switches on my dash so I can control each cornering lamp for increased lighting on dark roads.

First of all, don't cross any wires. Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously, and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light

Anyway, you'll need to tie into the red wire and the red/white wires located at pin 8 and 5 at the turn signal switch. Wire each of those to its own DC toggle switch (10 amp switches should be sufficient). Then tie one switched lead to the R/W wire and one to the R/G wires at the cornering lamp unit harness connector. You may need to use a diode in between the splice points and the connector pins at the corner lamp unit although I doubt it's necessary. If you wanted to get fancy you could tie into a switched circuit so you don't accidentally leave your corner lights on when you leave the car.
