Easy Mirror Mod

Thought I'd share.
A few weeks ago I put some black SE mirrors on my GXE. I've got black wheels, so I thought they looked pretty good together.

I wanted to change it up a little bit and add some color. I ended up combining the gxe mirrors with the black se mirrors (I've noticed a lot of newer cars are like this).

It was pretty easy to do, you just basically take them apart and put them back together. Not bad for a few hours and a few beers on a sunday afternoon.

My next mod will probably be getting rid of the chrome gxe trim!

just sayin... you must be a very very different height than me or something. mine have the inside edge of the mirror poking out past the housing for the way i'm sitting in the car. but then again i have my seat pretty far up.

ok, but I only backed out of the garage when I took the pictures, so I don't think I had adjusted them yet.

Thanks for the though!

ook. so you still left the black part attached to the car, but just swapped the white part? do you have to remove the glass part when doing so? just curious.

yes, you have to remove the glass to get to the screws holding the 2 pieces together. There is a screw at the bottom that lets the whole motor/mirror assembly come out.

there's the creativity the .org needs. i also like how the OP was responded to in a positive manner, without bash/hate/negativity-ing.

:

Nice work on the mod

Let us know how your next project (the GXE chrome one) goes. It's especially difficult to paint stainless steel and it's also hard to remove those trim pieces without breaking the white plastic clips that hold them in. I've been down this road before and gave up...

very nice mod on the mirrors. wish i could do this to mine but as you can see; whats the point if my car is dark anyway. as for the chrome trim you either paint them or just remove them and go to the dealer and buy new SE trim. right now im buying piece by piece from the dealer to get rid of the chrome trim on my GXE. i already did the grill mod but thats about it. again good job on your mirror mod.

it is a creative mod. gotta say that.
i would think about doing something like that, but I would probably mask and paint. easier way IMO.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys!

I'm still thinking about the chrome trim. I've tried removing them (in the junk yard) but I always break the clips or bend them. I've tried painting, but it always starts flaking off. I might use some of that black trim tape.

About the trim might is now gone i did that a long time ago i also painted the mirrors black too i just taped it off real good and sanded the "crome trim" so the primer would stick then painted it flat black well its not flat it does have a shine to it a lil but it turned out pretty good i have pix if u wanted to see them...better yet ill just post them in a few mins

^^^nice work! How long ago did u do that? What kind of paint? Is starting to flake off? I might try that again.

I'm wanting to transform my GXE to a sporty sedan, so chrome doesn't fit that. Just my humble opinion.

This is about mirrors and getting rid of the chrome i do post of other threads about other things and when i got the car it was already in this shape ok guys? im still working on it and i have found fenders to put on. i have a guy thats willing to take out all dents and repaint it for $1300 so yeah im not worried about the paint and all that stuff right about now im under the hood getting her to run right because there is no point in making her look good and she runs like crap? pretty sure u will understand where im coming from.

What are you referring to as the 'grill mod'? The switch from the chrome to the painted? Just curious

What primer and paint was used for the trim? How has the paint been holding up?

if you still have the levtover mirror parts i'm curious to see how the inverse scheme (pearlwhite base with black front shell) looks also... not necessarily installed on the car, but at least assembled.

that's funny that you asked that. I put them together so I wouldn't loose all the screws and put them in a box

Those don't look bad, either. add a stillen kit, au-natural, and it would look like it belongs.

they both look pretty good actually.. question.. is the base (body side) seperable from the glass-side of the housing? my personal fav would be black base, black frontal shell, and a pearl glass-side, if it's possible to rig it up that way

Thinking about getting the car painted the same color or change it to red if i do red this mirror mod would look pretty sick...However this is a pretty nice mod...
