Homemade Heatshield finished
Homemade Heatshield finished
This heatshield cost me about $20 total. The sheetmetal was free, the seal cost me $7 off a Nissan Quest van rear hatch. The most cost was the stainless steel allen head bolts and washers, I used to secure this with...Keeps the ignition box and intake charge cool!

Yeah that was on a Ford F150...It was pretty impressive, just wondering if there will be any distortion of that plastic heatshield.
Nope!!! Relocating battery to trunk AND remodeling guest bathroom, new floors, counter, sink, medicine cabinet, finished redoing the walls after removing 3-4 layers of wallpaper, removed ole school lights and installed and relocated new lights.....getting closer to starting car just a few odds and ends! I still at work and it's 10 pm so I'll do a little tonite on the 90 Max...

Geeze, I thought the VIP scene guys did a lot of work to their cars... Yours has a guest bathroom!
It's a great idea and everything, very professional looking and whatnot, but it needs somewhere for the cool air to come from, else you're just gonna be restricting air flow and causing hot air to enter the intake, via redirection around the 'heat shield'....i can see that you will get a little bit more focused air around the headlights, but it just doesn't seem like it's going to be enough dedicated cool airflow.
im working on something to keep it from moving and keep it in place.
what you made is taking unnecessary space. how are you going to wire your battery to you trunk? do a write out with pics if you do it.

I guess i just don't understand where the 'cooler' air is coming from.

he could run a duct like Gone and I did for the Jeffy/Gone CAIs that we made years ago. But instead of putting the filter down under the headlight, he could just mount a pipe from there to the sealed off area.
nowhere, explicitly... but having the shield there can help prevent the hot air from the center of the engine bay from circulating over to that side. same way as most heatshields work. it doesn't "cool" the part down, but it helps restrict the convection of hot air to (or away from) a particular area
As for moving the battery it's a benefit that's 2 or 3 fold in itself
1.Less levered weight hanging out front of the C.G.
2.More room to play with under the hood
3.Easier to give jumps without turning your car completely around
4. way better handling due to #1

First of all do you have a 3rd gen? If you do with all that intake duct removed...there must be a space big enough to almost stuff my size 11 1/2 shoe just under the headlights into the grill area! All the that air big rammed into the radiator will spill over into my intake area. The shield fits tightly against the hoodlining so no air(heat) from the engine compartment will come over the shield maybe wee bit along the bottom of the shield but the shield is there to reduce most of the heat not totally eliminate it! I will be measure the heat was the ride is totally operational hopefully it will be at a 50-100 degree difference....But anyway the air is coming thru the grill into the area in front of the radiator and under the drivers headlight assembly I can definitely stick 2 fist in!!!

yes i have a 3rd gen, and my question was already answered by CC. But why didn't you just run the filter outside of the engine bay and eliminate the need to make a heat shield at all?
also, i know what the benefits are to moving your battery to the trunk, my battery has been in the trunk for a year and a half, although i have remounted the relay box properly since relocating. I've also moved my coolant reservoir out of the engine bay area and down into the inner fenders, as well as removing the cruise control assembly to make room, so i'm familiar with the engine bay sir, thank you.
Edit: And did you paint your intake manifold without removing it from your car?
no, i just enjoy posting on a forum that has nothing to do with me....

I like the plastic Oem intake tube cause it's insulator to the heat, I cleaned up the interior of the intake tube added a JWT popcharger filter and bellmouth assy. The heatshield has 2 purposes as I wrote B4 for the intake and to protect my ignition box from extreme heat. My headers are also ceramic coated! As for the painting of the manifold and entire engine ...It was totally disassembled and rebuilt and I painted as much as I could! I'll be relocating my coolant overflow tank as well maybe one of those custom billet aluminum type. You asked a question or two I'm just trying to be helpful and answer them for buddy......Thanks for the interest and your time.
