blower fan relay location

So I have this 1989 Maxima GXE. No fan so I am trying to find the blower fan relay location. The issue I have is that when I pulled the passenger kick panel. All I found was a bright orange shift loc box. From what I have seen from pictures there should be a nice pretty blue relay there also. Am I missing something here?

any ideas, haven't found any blue relays on the passenger side . Sister is driving it back to school tomorrow so sorry for being a nag.

Just hate that all of the more recent FSM's show exactly where it isnt. Wish my dad didnt lose the 1989 fsm that came with the car.

hmm. my 90GXE has it... haven't checked the 89se in the backyard. sure it hasn't SOMEHOW managed to fall down? maybe they made changes after 89 on that, because my shift lock box is green. i converted the car to manual but i like having the box b/c it clicks when the brakelights come on, which i find helpful.

Just went to take a quick peek. Just as Intel mentioned, when I took out the right kick panel and all I found was the shift lock box. I don't have the car right now that I can take a closer look so I may check it out tomorrow.

Seeing that there are two changes that I know of from 89 - 90 (O2 Sensor and now this) maybe I should try to look for an 89 FSM.

is your shiftlock box orange?

another change from 89-90 was the deletion of the digi-dash and SONAR suspension options.. but that doesn't affect all cars like the things you noticed. what's different about the o2 sensor anyhow? the harness arrangement? i noticed there were 2 plugs attached to the rear mount on the 89se but only 1 on my 90gxe.

Just that the 89 O2 sensor has 4 wires (3 wires on one plug and one on the other) and gets reduced to 3 after that. Don't know what the extra wire is for or if a 90+ O2 sensor will work fine on an 89.

the relay should be behind the passenger side kick panel.

Do you have a picture of where the relay fan should be? I posted a picture of my 89 that only shows the shift lock box and nothing else. Maybe I didn't look hard enough?

it seems like your only help is going to come from other 89 a/t owners... because it appears (at least so far) that they changed the location of it from 89 to 90.

okay, maybe I'm out in left field on this one, but my 94 has ACC and it would only blow at one speed. It was my reo-stat, some call it the resistor. It was behind the glove box. Removing the glove box was simple and took about 4-6 screws. there were several HVAC controls behind the glove box.

Should and is are 2 completely different things. Only thing behind that right kick panel is the shift lock box. No extra wiring is in there beyond the door harness going into the passenger side door and that is about a foot above this box. Just moved so trying to find the box that hopefully has all of my FSM's in it.

The blower fan relay is just the right of the fuses. You have to take trim piece off that runs across the driver side (just below steering wheel).

I used to have relays mapped out (because almost all of them failed at some point) but I don't the 94 max anymore so I got rid of the paperwork.

When you turn on the fan you should hear the relay click. Or you can unplug relays and see what doesn't work. I think there were 6 (2x3).

Now that I think about it, there was another relay by itself, but I don't think that was the fan.

Hopefully this matches your model.

Sorry to revive a dead post but I finally tracked down a 1989 FSM that was lost in the move. I compared it to a 1990 FSM I had in pdf form. For this relay the 1989 Maxima's do not have it if they have a manual AC/Heater controls.

Ended up replacing the fan/squirrel cage instead and now the thing cranks the heat out.

Will try and scan the page for future reference. Oh the joys of first year cars and year to year electrical changes.
