weird power loss

Max was driving great and I went to pass someone. I hit 85mph and was at about 4100 rpm all of a sudden when it started hesitating real bad. Doesn't feel like a single cylinder miss. Kept driving and it smoothed out. Then after it sat for about 30 min I drove it and it was missing like crazy for about a minute then cleared up with just an occasional hiccup. So far it seems that it gets bad after sitting then sorta clears up. What could of triggered this just from passing someone. I check MAF and FI connections and they didn't make any difference

cracked disty cap? loose plug wires? faulty TPS hard-idle switch?

can't think what would cause that miss just because of the engine being under a higher load

did you check those items yet? my car kept hiccuping and it turned out to be a bad TPS hardswitch. reason being, it never gave me problems at idle (when the switch was supposed to have a closed circuit) but would give me problems any time i was off-idle.

Distributor cap looks ok. Problem when it happens does it both at idle and when driving.

what about the rotor and the screw inside the rotor.
that seems to be a common issue with the vg.

yea i think someone here had the tip of the screw break leaving the other half in the cam. so it would run like how your decribing or would start at all.

odd I went to go look at the cap and rotor. I noticed there was what looked like dirty water spots everywhere. Looks like the engine was getting wet everywhere. I checked and haven't lost any coolant.......odd

I had the screw holding my rotor in place come loose and the car wouldn't start. This was like 2 years ago though..

look at the connector ends of the spark plug wires. Do any of them look pinched in? if so you can use a flathead screwdriver to expand them out so they make good full conact with the disty, receptacles and the one to the coil as well.

try cleaning your iacv. if it's not able to properly adjust the airflow to compensate for extra loads (putting car in gear, turning the wheel, electrical loads, a/c) that would cause the RPM to drop the more stuff you use.

I agree with the throttle position sensor idea. That SOB can wreak havoc on your idle, shifting issues for the transmission, and most likely a cause for erectile dysfunction.

It can be adjusted. A little turn can make a BIG difference. Turn, drive, turn, drive, etc. till if feels right.

DO NOT USE DURA LUBE!!! stick with the engine restore. leave it in there for the full 3000 miles. that stuff worked miracles when i had my honda and acura.
if you have the gxe model you can adjust the idle on the ecu and the iacv itself.
my maxima idle's at 400rpms...thats with out anything on. dont feel any vibrations, or does'nt feel like she's about to stall either.

gradually loosen the idle adjust screw on the iacv (underneath a black rubber cap... well assuming you have a VG) until your idle is satisfactory. there's a more complicated way to do it but try that first.
