PROBLEMS PROBLEMS AND MORE PROBLEMS!!

MY car has been acting up really bad lately, more today than any other day that I can remember. First I drove it to Augusta about 70miles and notice that it was missing alot while I was driving down the highway at 70mph. I just put in a new ignition rotor. I also noticed that when ever I am close to stopping or getting ready to stop, the car goes into "putt putt mode and idles really bad, almost like it wants to shut off each and every time I stop! Its a 93 Vg30e motor with 224,000 miles. I also noticed that when I start the car up from it being parked at the store or at home, that the cooling fans are on at full speed like the car is overheating or running too hot, the idle speed will go to 1500 each and everytime I start the car, and fluctuate back and fourth. I noticed tonight that the lights get real dim and the car actully putts so bad that it seems to want to shut off! Earlier today I let a mechanic look at it because it was missing so bad and consistant that I couldnt take it anymore! SO I told him all the symptoms the car was having and we both observed that cylinder number 4 was the main culprit for the miss, we did this by pulling the spark plug wires, and all others made a change in the engine idle except cylinder number 4. So later on that day I put in a new spark plug in cylinder 4 to see if it would make a difference. It made no difference and It is still missing in that location. I also noticed today that even when the radiator fans are running the temperature guage in the car still stays at slightly below the middle mark, but yet the somthing is signaling the fans to come on. I dont know whats going on with the car! Please help!

Sounds like you have 2 separate problems.

1. A bad cyl4 injector - causing the miss on cyl 4.
2. A bad Coolant Temp sensor (CTS), or a bad connector on the CTS. - causing the fans to come on and 1500rpm idle when warm.

Test the resistance on the fuel injectors. Good ones should be within 10-14 ohms.

these should fix ur problem plus clean the MAF sensor with maf sensor cleaner, while u r there u might as well check the compression on all the cylinder if u want too...

Yah I was thinking that the coolant temerature sensor was bad also, I put one in from the junk yard, and I guess it went bad, and causeing me all these problems. I will definetely replace the injector on clyinder 4, that maybe why I was smelling fuel in the car at first startup. Thanks for the info!

Well I went to start the car this morning, and to my surprise the idle was at 1500 with both cooling fans running like crazy! SO I immidiately shut the car off and unscrewd the coolant temperature sensor, screwed in the new one and started it back up, and the problem was solved! Now I only have to worry about getting that injector out of there.

Look inside the connector of the CTS sensor, its most likely filled with oxide.
