Transmission power light blinking?
Transmission power light blinking?
After I changed my front oil seal (red covers) on my GXE, my transmission shifts very hard.
The 'P' like on the transmission selection switch also blinks many times now when I start up the car- any way to figure out what is going on with it?

Checked the fluid level? Make sure you check when the engine is hot, the dip stick should be hot to the touch.
You can count the number of blinks and that should be a code, someone posted a long time ago try and search for the post with the translations.
Are the nylon shifter bushings at both ends of the shifter cable? They tend to break and fall off the car. The one under the cat converter is above the cat heat sheild, the shield can be slide back and access to the bushing is possible.

er... front oil seal is behind the timing belt.... are you talking about your front valve cover gasket? at any rate, it has nothing to do with the tranny.
at any rate, after checking fluid and other "obvious stuff" (like connectors you may have accidentally unplugged or corroded ones you may have bumped/rustled), go to http://www.boredmder.com and navigate to the 94 maxima FM, AT section, and find how to do an on-car diagnostic procedure for the RE4F02A transmission.
@ eric: i'm not aware of shifter bushings ever having thrown a P-blink code. not saying it's not possible, but i'e never heard of it in the 2.5 years i've been on here

Cool, thanks guys! Yeah I was talking about the front valve cover gasket, couldn't remember the name though.
I'll check them out- also going to go by a tranny shop if I can't figure it out and have them look at it. The fluid level is fine- but since getting it rebuilt, it leaks tranny oi; :-/

You may have unplugged the drop resistor, there is a small wire harness clipped on to a bracket in front of/beside the drivers side strut tower, and another wire, coming from a box mounted by the wheel well that plugs into it.
If it is unplugged, the orange 'P' transmission light flashes upon startup, and you will have full line pressure shifts regardless of RPM or throttle position.

FYI... mine blinks since I did the auto to manual swap. I think it's cool, but that's because I don't have to worry about it. It's probably because a sensor isn't hooked up. Sensors are really the only way the TCU knows what kind of transmission you have... (well, if you have a manual then YOU are the TCU). A disconnected sensor would probably result in that blinking light, though.
