Heater A/C Vent Selector

My vent selector doesn't seem like it is stopping the doors at the right position. When I select the Floor setting I have appx 40% air going to the windshield and 60% to the floor. Setting it to Floor and Defrost bumps it to 50%-50%.

If I set it to Face and Floor it is about 20% Face and 80% Floor. The FSM mentions something about adjustments but when you go to that page there is nothing there. Should I try grabbing a servo out of the JY? When I set it to face only it blows 100% to the face like it should. What triggers the motor that moves the doors when to stop?

Sounds like a very common problem for Jeep Grand Cherokees... not Maximas though. have you physically inspected the vent doors to see if anything is in the way?

Yeah i've looked under the dash and watched them move. I even went ahead and sprayed some lithium grease for good measure on there.

Similar problem

I have been having a very similar problem with my heater. Where is the vent door located so I can inspect it?

If you look up on the drivers side like you are trying to look behind the stereo, you will see the arms moving that chnage the vents.

I would think there is some sort of sensor that tells the arm when to quit moving and either it is not working or needs to be adjusted or reprogrammed.

I have a question. My 1992 Max had been setting up in shop for 2 months having transmission work on it. The a/c and heater were both work at that time. I just got my car out of shop like 3 weeks ago. The a/c blows like crazy but the heater isnt blowing hot air. I change the thermostat last night it still not blowing hot air. What else can be wrong? Thanks a bunch

try bleeding the coolant system. most likely needed, especially if you changed the t'stat.

We bleed that before we put the thermostat in.

I had this issue when I put a new control unit in. I fixed it by taking the cable off the adjustment door went under and moved the door by hand to get hot air to come out, I then slid the cable back on with it showing hot on the unit. Worked fine after that, was just off a little.

I kinda prefer it like mine is right now.
some (30% or so) goes to the windshield, the rest to the floor.
gets a little air on the windshield, and keeps it from fogging up.
wouldn't have helped today, tho. had full defrost on, and it still fogged up.
stupid Oklahoma weather....

Im gonna hop in on this one, i may have a related problem - ambient air blows out of my panel (face) vents at all times while driving. Temperature adjustment works, and all the vent selectors work

When i select floor/defrost or defrost or floor, outside air blows through the face vents when im driving, so i usually close those 4 vents individually and keep it on floor/defrost. The air blowing out of the face vents doesnt seem as warm as when i have it on floor/defrost, i think because outside air may be coming in at all times mixing with the warm air from puting the heat on

you need to move the selector that is on the far left down where it is not pointed at the little blue symbols.

As far as the post above it seems you were talking about removing the cable that controls the door for temperature? I am not having any issues with the temperature off.
