help diagnosing, whats draining battery when car sits..

so my 92 ve auto sits from time to time because i drive my truck around too and dont drive much as it is. when i go to start it i have to jump it because the battery gets just barely too low to start it. it gets close to starting but not enough juice...ill drive it a while, and i can start it later on no problem. after it sits for a couple days i will have to jump it again..

the alt is newly rebuilt a couple years ago...new optima red top battery i bought this year.

I think my after market alarm systems backup battery is recharging itself as time goes on , and being its not being driven, I think its slowly draining my battery to where it cant start. Is this possible, or even normal for backup batteries for alarms to do?

If thats not whats slowly draining my battery then I must be losing it somewhere and am curious on tips to track down this kind of problem. thanks

do you have an aftermarket alarm with a backup battery?

No, all stock here.....for now. I travel frequently and have had to buy one of those jump-start kits so that when I get ready to leave the airport I just reach in the back, hook it up and jump-start my baby to get out of there.

Thought it might be the annoying flashing alarm light, but wasn't sure. Going to get rid of it soon anyway.

I would use a digital multimeter with a clamp-on amp probe. The amp probe clamps over the power wire of the suspected component and tells you how much power it's drawing, without interfering with the circuit. You will easily be able to rule out each suspect until you find the culprit.

Check trunk light. Someone else had that prob a while back and it wound up being the trunk light being stuck on for some reason.
