tranny, clutch, or IPS?

ok recently i posted a thread about the grinding sound my car was making right at the front left tire...it only started happening when i put 20 inch rims on it...now my clutch pedal wont fully depress without me pulling it back up with my foot...and that grinding im hearing is very loud in 1st gear...im at a loss as to what my issue maybe...i dont want to replace the clutch kit on it and then it turn out to be my tranny going on me...

what the heck is "ips"?

how's the fluid level on the clutch master cylinder? sure you aren't leaking or losing pressure? is the pedal soft on the way down? usually if it's soft on the way down that means you aren't fully able to disconnect the clutch which can cause shifts to grind.

lol i meant input shaft bearing....well i just had both master and slave cylinders replaced about two weeks ago and he checked the lines and there werent any leaks at all only from master before replacement...but master is topped off...and havent been losing any since replacement...yeah pedal is soft on way down...plus in 1st gear if i rev to around 3500rpms and drop it to 2nd i get a bit of a jerk out the car like it caught the gear but severly...

try re-bleeding the clutch pedal. when bleeding the clutch you always have to pull the pedal up the first few times, because the return spring is a dual action (pushes up until halfway, then pushes down past halfway) rather than an always-pushing-up return spring like the gas and brake pedals. that's why you never have to pick the brake pedal up off the floor when bleeding the brakes.

on my cars tho (my 3G, my z once it's running, my civic, and my brother's 6th gen), i got rid of the pedal return spring and let the return spring inside the master cylinder itself keep the pedal up. imo it's a big improvement in smooth engagement of the clutch but you have to get down there and adjust the rod after the spring is gone to set the pedal's height which as tall as you are might be awkward

i'd imagine so...but my main thing im wondering is what the hell is my problem...the last thing i wanna do is keep going thru parts troubleshooting a crapload of things...that grinding im hearing is getting really frustrating and the clutch not fully depressing is getting annoying lol

bleed the clutch some more first, if that doesn't help (or does but only temporarily) then start worrying about other things. if you have a bottle of brake fluid already then the bleeding is already paid for if you have someone else to do it with.

yeah ive bled it 3 times since the clutch issue and still same thing...im just gonna go ahead and replace clutch kit and if problem persists then i know its prolly the tranny crapping out...

it's not the tranny... it's literally impossible for the "tranny" to cause the pedal to stick to the floor.

as you DEPRESS the clutch to accelerate in first? you kinda have to lift off the clutch to start accelerating, not depress it are you saying that the clunk happens while you're putting the shifter into gear?

If its only in 1st gear - shifter linkage ?
Sounds to me like first gear isnt in properly, but slams itself in when you start moving.

i've been talking to him on the side. he didn't know the clutch had 2 separate bleeders. that might be the pedal issue. the gear issue might be motor mounts or something...

o yea, the ones from the jy right? how are your axles, strut mounts and control arm bushings and balljoints? they all get put under stress when you are starting off in 1st gear.

well if any of those items have freeplay that can be your clunk. and your strongest acceleration is in 1st gear of course.

i remember seeing that your strut mounts were kinda cracked which i guess is part of why you wanted the ones off my car. i guess we could swap control arms/balljoints too since i have new forward bushings and balljoints on it. it's not something i can do immediately but at some point.
