3rd Gen Photo Request

Hi guys. I've been experimenting with site banner designs over in the Photoshop Forum, and am currently looking for front-end photos of all generation Maximas. Very specifically, I'm interested in shots where the roof line flattens out.

Here's a 5th gen example. Notice how the undercarriage and roof line are both close-to-level, the tires are clearly visible, but the photo doesn't have any wide-angle distortion.

Apparently this is an uncommon angle. I've been trolling through the member rides, CarDomain.com, and even Auto Trader, without much success.

Of course, winter may be an awkward time to make this kind of request... it's not like people are going to go take pictures of their car at this time of year. But if you have something to offer, please post it here, or PM me for contact information.

Thanks!

I would take a photo of my max, but it's under snow right now.

The third pic in this thread looks somewhat what you want, not exactly but close. It is also modified, don't know if that matters.

That's close, but the height angle is too high. Which is understandably common, since most people take photos at head-height.

pm'd

[edit]

Logan, the lighting and reflections compromise the shot. And you're too close, as well as just a little too high. The closeness is what causes the wide-angle effect. Like I said, it's an uncommon angle. Cliff Clavin below (nice screen name) nailed the height and distance perfectly, but is showing a corner shot.

Here's your car, for perspective on my comments. Like I said, too close, too high and too much reflection on the hood.

On a side note: nice car. Always loved the 3rd gen in white w/black trim.

I would help out, but we still have snow on the ground and the car is dusty from sitting in the garage since the summer.

If you still need some in a couple of months, bring the thread back up.

I actually own a good tripod with two levels on it and have a bit of photo experience.

Strangely enough, my Max is stuck with icy snow on it, in Alabama. I will see if I can knock it off when i am back in town, if you need the pics still.

Yeah, baby. Close enough for government work. Thanks for the image stock, Pearl93.

Pearle white... always a favorite. First Maxima I ever drove was a loaded, 1993 pearl white SE 5MT. Sweet.

OK, I got what I wanted from Pearl93VE.

It's good enough to make me want to re-do the red 4th gen image. And I need to establish some continuity to the windshield opacity. But still, happy. Thanks, guys!

Anyway, check it out:

Hah, neat. Looking good. Only thing is, does it look like my car is raised to anyone? Hah. I can see you're going for the stock-esque look for the website- but I'm sure you've noticed even at stock ride height the 3rd gen still looks especially low, even from head on. Not trying to step on anyone's toes, but I did a little revision just for the sake of constructive criticism.

also: just had had a thought. In the banner you're making with all of the gens sitting next to eachother, what if whatever gen forum you were in, that's what car would "light up" in the banner. Something to make it stand out from the rest. Like maybe the other one's can be black and white, and the gen in color can coincide with forum you're in. Maybe even a subtle glow effect. Lots of ways to achieve the effect. Just an idea.

ooh, I like that idea, however, it won't happen... already discussed some similar ideas (not sub-forum dependent, but just animated images), and it seems like it would be too much work (or since the org can be flakey sometimes, it may be best not to mess with the code, more than necessary)

However, I agree with what you're saying about the stance of the 3rd gen being lower than subsequent models. Quite obviously, I took some image editing liberties with your car. For instance, I used the tires and shadow from the 5th gen image. And in fact, from the windshield to the underside, I simply mirrored one side to the next, for continuity. Filled in the license plate holes, etc.

In the end, the image will be so small anyway, that some of these details are likely irrelevant. But I have to say, nice job lowing the car and adding the burger to the grill. The burger should be there. Absolutely.

[edit] Here's that image again with your advice... lowered, grill burger and a lightened windshield:

Hey, thank you for the kind words.

I'd be happy and proud if this, or some variation, were used on the Org. But regardless, I enjoyed the collaborative process that culminated in this graphic.

Here are the last 5 gens all lined up, for no reason other than it looks kind of cool.

Nicely done man! I know it is sort of late, but I think that it would only add to the total effect if you were somehow able to get a 1st and 2nd gen in there as well. Get the whole family!

Well, there is a 2nd gen in the banner, offset on the right.

You know, it wasn't for lack of trying. I put a similar shout-out to the 1st - 2nd gen forum, and unfortunately didn't get anything that I could really work with. I also tried trolling the internet, auto-trader, cars.com, ebaymotors, etc., looking for the right imagery.

The cars are old, the market is small. It is what it is.

Hey guys, you know I'm really grateful for your help in getting a 3rd gen front image for this work. It looks like there a vote going on now.

Option 1 is mine, btw. Thanks again, guys!

Still don't know what was wrong with the old banner, but I voted for yours because it's the best of the 2. Can't say I really dig the front view of the cars though, 2nd gen is the most eye catching part of the banner imo.. 6th gen looks downright goofy

I kind of agree about the 6th gen. The angle isn't quite right, and it seems lots of people prefer the 6.5 front end over the 6.0. If I had to create a list of things I'd like to tweak, that would be on it.
