Problem shifting into reverse or drive.

So my brother bought a 1994 maxima and he noticed that in the mornings (cold) the transmission (auto) shifter requires super "human strength" effort to shift into Reverse or Drive. As soon as the vehicle warms up the shifter moves like a hot knife on butter. When the transmission is cold or hot the transmission shifts gears just fine...The problem he has is getting into gear.

thanks............

i know mine was tough to shift into R from P sometimes (didnt have to use a ton of strength but it was uncomfortable), my shifter bushing finally gave all the way and i couldnt start the car in P, it had to be in N, and as well if i tried to shift into D i had to wiggle the shifter down a bit for D to engage. When i got a new shifter bushing, all the problems went away. didnt have to apply excess pressure to get into R, shifts into D fine, starts in P and shifter feels alot tighter

a new shifter bushing is 5 bucks from Nissan, not hard to do yourself either
