Windows rolling down

Feel I'd share:

washed the car today and after pulling out of the wash (approx 2-3 minutes after the dryer) my 3 windows started to roll down on their own. It gave me a break as driver's side stayed up - it was -6 C outside. I'm ironed down 3rd gen owner so this kind of things don't upset me, just kind of ... unexpected. Luckily I was driving and not my better part - she'd freak out for sure . All kind of weird stuff started to happen: when I pushed rear left window switch on the driver's side door my left rear window goes up while rear right window goes down at the same time. The same switch down - they both go in opposite directions. Kind of makes sense, eh?

that sucks, someone else posted about the window coming down by itself issue (1993-maxima-gxe or whatever his name is), should be on page 2 or 3

Sounds like your master switch is getting ready to go. Gotta replace mine. All mine go down but won't come up at the master switch. I have to go around to each individual door and roll the windows up.

Window master switches are one of those things I like to keep in the parts bin at all times (preferably more than one). I have replaced mine at least 3 times in 6 years. On the bright side, they are plentiful in parts yards and very easy to replace.

It dried over night and started to work normally again. I'll look into this later when weather warms up.

This particular problem is due to a resistor close to one of the caps on the master windows switch board, which if it has leaked, likely corroded the resistor connection to the board on one end. I had this same problem and resoldered the resistor and voila, windows go up again via the master switch. This is a surface mount resistor, very small, so requires a proper soldering iron and a steady hand. I'll try and get some pics later.

While you're in there, might as well replace the leaking caps and have the auto-down functionality back (and you can also mod it for auto-up also).

Or you could just replace the master window switch.

The auto-up is relevant to my interests. Do you have a link or a write up?

There was a write up on Craigs website, but the site no longer exists. I'm sure it is posted elsewhere, tried a search on the forum?

Edit: Here it is.
