Blinker mod wiring

Aight guys so those gay LED strips i had on the outside of my headlight lenses lol... i took off about four months ago and the other day decided to do something more creative with them.

I took my blinkers(smoked) out and took the reflective thingy out and also took the bulb pluggin out and wired up the LED strips. I used reflective tape to conceal any loss of light i might have from the strip and ran it along the bottom of the blinker using 3M double stick tape and followed the same curve the the blinker has on the outer edge, giving the similar look to what the audi's have. I really like the way it turned out... it looks sick!

But the problem is that they arent functional as a blinker. I flipped my blinkers on and they were flashing but very dimmly(hardly visible even up close) soo i figured i got do some wiring to make this work and thats my question.

Right now i have them wired as a parking light just to get a feel for how they look... and dont worry the car's parked im not driving around with no blinkers hahah

Any help on what i can do to make these work as blinkers would be mucho appreciated!

I dont have any pics right now cuz my camera's broked but hope to have some up soon

I think I get what you're saying. You stuck the strips along the inside of the lenses so they're pointing back into the housing? Probably too dim because they're pointing in the opposite direction and because you smoked your lenses. You might want to try coating the inside of the housing with with some of that Rustoleum chrome spray.

Not really much you can do on the electrical side besides replace with brighter LEDs.

No theyre facing out of the lenses and have that audi kinda look but theyre are hardy visible as blinkers but as parking lights theyre bright as hell haha

Hand Signs are still legal. At night I think you need a flashlight.

Thanks man... I ordered the white ones but they have that kinda HID blue-ish tint to em.

Any input on the blinker issue? I read something about using a load resister inline with the LED's soo that they dont act up.

I wish I could continue speaking Deutsch, I had to look up Kraftfahrzeugkennzeichen, and its not entirely correct, but it does describe a license plate in a vague sense......... Good luck with the wiring, I have no earthly idea. Viel glueck!

Lol no ones really replied to that part of the post the actual making of the mod is not bad at all... pretty easy actually but i gotta figure out how to make it flash correctly sooo if any of yall got any input, its much appreciated! I bet that dude that made the LED's tails for his 3rd gen knows what i need to do... i think his name was koosho ? not sure but ima try to talk to him.

so is the problem that they're not flashing or that they're dim when you try to flash them? Flashers on older cars need a load on them in order to flash properly, LEDs will stay on but not cause enough of a load to make them blink, you might be able to fix this with a resistor. If the problem is them being dim rather than not flashing I don't really have any ideas.

They dont flash when i turn my signal on... and the rear blinks extra fast like the front is blown. When i look really close it looks like there's a lil flicker in em but hardly visible.

You should just get a load resistor first and see what the out come is... But did u do the side corner blinker mod?

Okay im not too familar with a load resistor soo... where can i buy one? how should i wire it? and im not sure what your askin but what i did is i took that LED strip in the picture and made it my blinker. but in that picture its wired to my parkin light soo i could see how they would look. does that answer your question ?

the picture half way down shows a resistor (squiggly line) installed in series with the LEDs. resistors can be found at radio shack, or ebay.
measure the resistance of the LEDs, and then the resistance of the old bulb. try to find a resistor the same size as the difference (or closest to it).
(for example, if your LED setup has a resistance of 10ohms, and the bulb has a resistance of 1000, 1000-10=990, so a 1000ohm resistor woud do the job. numbers are not accurate, just something I pulled out of the air)

with those symptoms it sounds like the resistance is the problem, you just need to wire a resistor in series with the LEDs, I don't think it matters if it is before or after them. Resistors are also usually dirt cheap so the fix shouldn't cost much at all.

i got these load resistors, planning on doing a led blinker mod this summer, u just connect these from positive to negative(i think thats how it goes, forgot)
this is for the blinker leds to no flicker that fast so it give it alittle more power so it becomes more steady, but wont make it more bright

well he can't change the resistors out of the led strips without destroying them. They come with their own built in 12v resistors

adding another resistor to the circuit will cause more power draw, and allow the blinker to function.

He doesn't need to change the resistors in the LED strips, he just needs to add another resistor before or after them. And it shouldn't matter which direction the resistors are oriented, they don't have a positive or negative end.

did you ever think about doin the strip and an led bulb, like in wiring up the strips to the parking lights as you have it now and run the led bulb normally or do you think that'll be cheesy. I wanted to do the stripps but i got the bulbs instead at a truckstop (when i was driving o.t.r) in Missouri, right across from the chrome shop mafia or the trick my truck show.they are bright but blink fast. But what do you think i like to see that oh sorry bout the ramble http://s217.photobucket.com/albums/c...sonycam018.flv

Could add side markers for each fender to make use of the bulbs..

Something just doesn't sit right with this resistor.
You say that the blinker light acts as if the front one is out?

I'm thinking your LED's have too much resistance. So much you car blinkers like the front is an open circuit ( infinite ohms ). Add more resistance will increase the voltage drop across it.

I'm thinking that you should match the power across the leds with the power across the bulb. Maybe by adding an amplifier?

But I'm not too sure. I'll wait for the results.
