what Brand of spark plugs did you put in? What did you have in there before? I know I went with BOsh platinum 4s, and thought they would be good because of the 4 tips, But soon found out that Bosh is no good for most foreign cars. Went back to NGKs

i got the cheap NGK copper core plugs. they were the same that were in there but the ones that were in there were unknown miles old. so it rele helped the idle when i put fresh ones in. like it runs alot smoother so yeah.
i think i need like a new rotor because i thing its arcing sumwhere, idk if its normal foryou to get shocked when you touch the rotor. lol.

well, for clarification, the cap is what the wires plug into, the rotor is covered by the cap.

you may a new cap (may have a crack), or plug wires. I recommend replacing all three, when you can (cap, rotor, wires)
(so, no, it's not supposed to be normal...)

yup.. if you're getting shocked through the cap, then it's time to replace the cap and rotor. while you have it apart, replace the wires too. if they're OEM originals, they're definitely past due- they usually last about 8-10 years and your car is 20 yrs old!

Good, timely thread here. I'm looking to get NGK BKR5E-11 V-POWER, i dont know which brand of wires to get though? any suggestions? Also whats the difference between the NGK coppers and Iridium IX's?? Do the Iridiums really offer a noticeably better throttle response?

your thing on the left shows a '98 max, do you also own a 3rd gen?
regardless, the better (more expensive) plugs do spark better, but for a stockish car, coppers are fine, you won't notice any difference.
I just changed the plugs (NGK copper) in mine after two years, noticed almost no difference.
wire brand really doesn't matter, as long as they are real wires (Bosch and NGK, as apposed to duralast)

all of this is for a sohc, afaik the dohc engines are recommended to use the better plug. people do use coppers in there VE's, and i am sure in VQ's as well.
