painted 05 Maxima 17" wheels

Over the last couple of weeks I sanded/primed/painted the 17 inch wheels I got this past winter.

I still have to clear coat them. I need to decide if I want them glossy or not. I am leaning toward a satin kind of finish. Not totally flat, but not glossy, either.

Here was the worst wheel when I got it (notice curb rash upper LH corner):

I sanded all of the wheels, but I did a special job on that one (same curb rash area):

One sanded down wheel:

primer (accidentally left camera on B&W):

Paint color:

Lookin good man, I was thinking about picking up a set of those a couple years ago but decided on those 18's you've seen. These are going on the FX right? Or the Maxima? I remember you saying you didn't know if they would clear the calipers in the Infiniti.

7 spoke 17 inch on a 3rd gen ftw. kinda like my 300c wheels except your wheels have enough offset for them to fit properly.

Nicely done, I was thinking about that same color for my wheels. How close is it to the grey at the bottom of your car?

the bottom of my car is black.

I think the color might be a little light, bu I didn't want to go with BLACK. I used dark gray primer in hopes that the color would be a little darker, but no dice on that one. My only other option would have been to find a color, have it mixed and paint it with a gun, which would have been much more involved.

I still like them and for what I have invested, I can't complain.

Oh yeah, I know they look good .
I'm in the process of repainting my wheels and was wanting a dark grey like that, instead of black. I saw the same paint and though it might match the the grey on the bottom of my car, but no big deal I was just wondering.
Can't wait to see them on your car.

I have to clear coat them, including the center caps and put the caps back together.

With the weather, it might be tough to do. When I painted them, it was barely above 50 degrees and sunny. I am at lunch right now and it's about 45 degrees, kind of windy and mostly sunny. If the wind lets up, I can put clear coat on after I get home from work.

Otherwise, the forecast is for rain and wind the next few days. Saturday, there is a chance of snow showers even.

They didn't fit over the brakes of the FX, so these wheels are going on the maxima.

I am planning on selling the current 4th gen wheels and tires to finance tires/mount/balance for the 17s.

Since these didn't fit the FX, I grabbed some 2006 Murano wheels with Nokian studded snow tires. The Murano wheels were chromed and debadged. The chrome is gross looking (I hate chrome, plus these are pitted from winter use), so I need to maybe sand them down and paint those, too. I will probably go with black or flat black on those.

they are stacked in my garage and haven't taken a photo. They look like this (except chrome and no emblem):

I always have liked the darker wheels on red cars.

Seeing you on here reminds me that I need some better glass for my new camera. The kit lens is below average (except I like IS). My 17-35 isn't worth a crap. I think it needs to be calibrated or something. About 1/3 of the photos are slightly out of focus. It drives me crazy.

I finally got them finished.

Two coats of matte clear coat over them. I don't know why, but dust really wants to stick to the clear coat (they are totally dry). I might have to put a good coat of wax on them or something.

Turned out pretty good for all rattle can stuff. A few blemishes I can see in the wheels from previous damage, but you need to look really close.

Now I need to sell my 4th gen SE wheels to finance some new 17 inch tires.

they came out nice! I actually bought that same exact gunmetal paint (along with another lighter silver color) to experiment with- I plan on painting some small engine bay brackets and such with it; anything that I don't get powdercoated. So far I'm impressed with it the way it comes out considering it's a rattle can. I test-painted a piece of metal with it (actually jeffs bbk caliper bracket ) and zip tied it in my daily drivers engine bay and then will leave it out in sun/rain for awhile to see how it holds up

I think this is the same type of paint most people have been using (duplicolor rattle can wheel paint).

I am a little concerned with the clear coat. It is rustoleum and I bought it because it was the only "matte" finish clear I found at True Value or Home Depot.

It is about the same level of "matte" as the wheel paint, just slightly more dull. It was actually difficult to tell where I had painted them, so I had to use a certain pattern on them to remember where I had painted.
