I cant remember i think i used it once to unlock my driver door to disengage the alarm , which kept going off i remember until i punched in the security code.

 

... red color tabbed key? on the door keypad? if it says "ST" on it then that's what you start the unlock sequence with when using the keypad.

So for example if your keypad code is 12345, you'd hit [ST]-[1|2]-[1|2]-[3|4]-[3|4]-[5|6] to unlock the doors.

 

I think he's talking about the physical keys the Maxima includes. The black one is the master key which can be used on all of the locks within the car. The red one can only be used to start the car or unlock the doors. It cannot unlock the glove compartment or the trunk.

 

Yes to be more clear i meant the car keys BUT the key with the red handle did open my trunk. i thought the red key disarmed the alarm system when you used it to open the car door.

my car alarm will go off if i use the black key to unlock the driver's door with punching in the code.

 

The red key is supposed to be a valet key. It shouldn't be able to unlock the trunk or glove box IIRC
