Stock Struts - Adjustable?
I had a quote on replacing my struts. It was a crazy out of line quote, because I know the pricing for most of the struts out there for our cars, but I asked him why it was SO expensive - and he said "well on a Camry for example, you just replace a cartridge, whereas on my 91Max SE the whole blah blah blah needs replacing...."
And this is why I'm posting....he goes on to say that my struts are adjustable. There's a screw on them for doing so.
And this is my long winded way of asking,
"Really?"
BTW: He wanted $1100+ to do the job!
This was NOT a Nissan dealer and these were for generic aftermarket.
I just had to laugh.
I think I'll do it again.
Hah ha!!

AFAIK, there's nothing to adjust (except maybe post-work wheel alignment?) and no one makes adjustable shocks for us (although someone said you could get Koni to modify their shocks to the adjustable type).
I don't know why it's so high, but maybe he's an idiot and thinks you have the electroncially adjustable sonar suspension and wants to replace those, which would be really expensive.
One thing that's harder in a normal job though is the rear strut cartridges. They need to be cut out of their housings I think, and this adds labor. (Maybe he wanted to replace the whole assembly?)

well...
the 3rd gens w/ sonar suspension have the very $$$ strut units. they are adjustable from comfort to sport setting inside the car..and a motor spins a **** on top of the strut to change firmness.
i'm pretty sure people who have these units have took them out and are using regular struts.
make sure you're getting the correct shocks...i would get a 2nd opinion.

He knew...
I was really clear with him that my car doesn't have the electronic adjustable suspension setup. He said he understood, but that the stock struts were adjustable by turning a screw.
Yeah, I have the auto/comfort switch, but that's for the transmission - not the shocks....
Anyway, I was just posting for a laugh. But I was interested about the possiblity of a screw. Maybe I should ask my wife...
