except when you have Sparco harnesses and it becomes a 2 seater

i still love the Florida 3rd gen commercial where a 3rd gen does a perfect smooth 180 on wet pavement

shareholders aren't going to want to ride in a 20 year old FWD nissan owned by a wannabe racecar driver... they want a fresh, stately car to ride in. Like a LS460 or something. And they sure as hell don't want to be a fast turbo car being driven like one.... There's plenty of RWD sedans out there that can be souped up and deliver WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better results than you can EVER get from a Maxima. Sorry but that's the absolute truth.

Thanks for inserting some sense into this thread. Its awesome that you and others did your 5-speed swap. And the few turbo third gens that do exist just blow me away. Its a unique thing to do and should get much acclaim. But what I hate is people who want to modify their Maxima but have no respect for what it is. It a 16ft 3200lb FWD car that was too big for most markets. I've seen too many people mod the hell out of one only to dump for something that performs better bone stock.

I like to drive mountain roads quickly in my Maxima and I like the way a big car feels as it "hustles" through the turns and makes big swooping body motions and pulls hard out of the turns at lower RPMSs and short shifts when I lift the throttle then pulls again when I roll it on in the next gear. There's a certain rhythm you can get into. But if some ricer gets on my tail i just find spot where I can ease off the shoulder and wave him by. Yes I've shown a few up. But how would I feel if help some 17 year old lose it and go off the road?

So, one more question that needs to be asked before modding a car is: what are you going to do with it?

sad thing though is seeing the fun you can have with RWD, theres a guy a few streets away from me with a slammed Silvia S14, turbo of course with a full Origin bodykit, mad offset rims, exhaust, the works. he works right beside me too. it rained/snowed all day and i saw him on the way home from work, he made a left turn in rushhour traffic, drifted completely sideways blowing off the rev limiter then kept going, looked so dam cool lol

times on my side though, so maybe one day i can outgun him with speed

theres only a few i kinda regret not buying, a garage here had a 1990 240sx hatch that has been sitting since 1994, had only like 50,000km IIRC. engine and auto tranny were good i guess, but it had no left taillight, front fenders, headlights, or hood. $800, but towing would have been a bear. you can always get a 240sx later on though

another was a R32 GTS-T Skyline for $2000, auto and of course RWD. just needed a new drivers side headlights and a dent popped. i'm sure in a while i'll find something. i wanna see if i can get a ride in that Silvia though

240sx FT

z31 is SUCH a classier car... not to mention alot more pleasant to drive in everyday situations due to the broad lowend torque of the VG30E that i definitely took for granted until i had to drive a 4-cylinder car again. launching competently at 1000rpm>>>>having to launch at 2000rpm just to keep from bogging down. the factory turbo option doesn't hurt either since everything's already right there for you.

240sx are awesome, theyre RWD Civics. cheap, easy to obtain, etc.

the 4cyl is the only thing that kills me though, SR20DET/4Age are the only 4cyl i would want to own. a small straight 6 like a RB20 is easy to swap into 240sx now which can fix that.

Not for nothing but a brand new 2010 Maxima does deliver just that, sports car, luxury and family car. Unfortunately the third gen never was offered as a turbo from factory. I know it's nice to have turbo, I own a 97' Volvo 850 wit low pressure turbo and it's really nice and my father had a 87' Nissan Three Hundred ZX Turbo brand new from factory and gave it to my older brother in 1990 and he didn't even want because he was into American Muscle. I love how my 89' look's also and would love to TURBOOOOO the shyt out of it but it's way too much money , time and modifications for my liking. I'm adding as much HP as possible to my 89' and upgrading the hell out of my suspension plus eventually will add body kit/paint. If I really wan't a race car I would go out and buy another Mustang Saleen or Mustang Cobra, there's more you can do with them.

hah, please... z31's are way better looking than s13/s14. other than the stupid bumpers on later models i still think that 70-83 z/zx cars looked better still, but they're hard to find in good shape these days.

i dont feel 7th gens at all, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Maximas look awesome, 4th gens got to be kinda , 5th gens are , 6th gens are and 7th gens are 7th gens dont even come in stick. IIRC the diesel 1st gens were turbo-diesel right?

Skylines>*, GTR for straights and GTS-T for drifting. Z31 are good looking, but Sileighty and S13 Silvia are beautiful. i dont like S14 unless it has a S15 front end conversion

hence why my Z is ultimately getting an LS1... i have no time to wait around for torque to show up 2000rpm after i needed it and i have no time to wait for stinkin' turbos to spool.

FYI: no, it isn't. that is a DOHC ve30de, you have a SOHC vg30e.

VE were better engines if you just want to do basic mods like CAI and stuff, plus their engine bay is tighter than your mom. VG engines have a roomy bay, and are a solid engine for turboing. plus VG already have a name from V6 200sx and Z31

ntrly. VQ>VE>VG... the VG is just the easiest of the 3 to turbo since it has lower compression and can borrow parts from the z31. SOHC anything ftl either make it OHV so it's compact, or DOHC so you can use variable valve timing.. SOHC is the worst of both worlds-- bulky and non-variable.

i'm simply speaking the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. If you want a good-handling FWD car then look for something with a double wishbone front suspension like an Accord, Fusion, Mazda6, etc. Even older civics used to have upper control arms until 2001. Struts are cheaper to engineer, but don't do much for performance especially on a dropped car.

indeed; most DOHC Nissan motors have it, called "VTC".

on VE's, it's called "VTC Clack"

blah, DOHC and VTC's ftw... ever notice how the non-turbo z32 makes 20 MORE horsepower than the turbo z31 with the same size engine?

Well, I don't know. Maybe it's your driving style, but you do have more car experience than me. There are times I've been making turns up to 20 mph (25 with skid sound) more than the posted speed limit, and my baby hugs the lane. Considering the newer cars that I have rented and driven, the 3rd Gen Max is up to par.

Possibly even better...

i think hes jooing me he said he didnt know what anything was worth, so i went by junkyard pricing ($50 for a turbo, $40 for exhaust manifold, $30 for downpipe, whatever for piping and oil lines) and we got to $400 i figured $200, $250 max. i think its just worth it for me to drive a few hours to the Nissan junkyard or call them up and see if they can get me everything and greyhound it to me

i know some people go with custom manifolds, is that a ton more?

oh, yeah. gotta get mandrel tubing, weld it together; having a shop do it could easily cost $1000 or so.
