need basic tune up advice

I own a 92 GXE. The car is in need of a tune up. I should mention, right off the bat, that I'm not a performance enthusiast, but just want to perform a basic tune-up. I'm assuming that entails plugs, wires, dist. cap.

If anyone has any advice, or a link to a thread on this forum, I'd really appreciate it. I looked around but a lot of the threads here seem to be performance oriented. I work out of the house and maybe drive my car 3 times a week, tops.

thanks in advance,

John

ngk plugs, ngk or bosch wires, whatever cap/rotor autozone/napa/etc. sells.

don't forget air filter, may as well grab a fuel filter, too. that is a basic engine tune up.

Also change your pcv valve, its only like $3 most places. More than likely its probaly never been changed.

Yes NGK is best for the maxima, I tried Bosh platinum 4's(with the 4 tips) thinking I was gonna get more power with those. I was so wrong! As soon as I read the forum I and experienced the symptoms and power loss, I switched back to NGK. Problem solved

Thanks for all the advice. For some reason I wasn't getting email notification.

Thanks again.

gotta make it subscribe. I prefer it that way, as some forums I am on auto-subscribe, just for posting in a thread. Thank god, otherwise I would be getting thousands of emails.

Change all fluids, tranny, radiator, oil, power steering if needed, brake fluid if needed. Change all filters, air, oil, fuel, new cap/rotor, wires, plugs. Check your battery voltage, fuel injector connections,O2 sensor/connections, MAF sensor and throttle chamber, clean everything if needed with proper solvents/spray cleaner's. This is a full tune up for me especially if car is old or bought used, good wrenching, Shiloh.

P.S. This is what people should be doing with an old auto/3rd generation Maxima, not trying to mod everything they know nothing about. Get your ride to stage 0 first then worry bout adding HP or tricking out interior/exterior, this in know is intended for the person who started this thread but for those it applies to, if it doesn't apply let it fly.
