using 4th gen 5 speed in 3rd gen

Is this possible? or do I have to stick with the same generation. The car I'm looking at is a 95 maxima donor car. I have a 91.

The internals are nearly identical, but you can't bolt a VQ trans to a VG block.

I had a feeling you might be new when I looked at the title. No the VQ30 5spd doesn't do a direct bolt up to the VG30E. Check around in the searches. I believed a while back someone else asked something similar. If you aren't using a VG 5spd you can use a VE 5spd but certain things must be swapped if you go with the RS5F50V (VE vlsd tranny). Are you trying to do a 5spd swap or do you have a 5spd already?

I'm looking to do a 5 speed swap. My auto trans **** the bed so now is the perfect time to do the swap. So I would have to stick with the same gen to make things easier. The reason I ask is I had a line on a 95 with a 5 speed that had a blown motor, I might still buy it and rebuild the motor if its not to wasted, I'll check it out this weekend.

What he is saying is go search this topic and you'll find previous threads on this same topic. Go to the stickies when your done searching/reading and read on how to do a 5spd conversion on your motor.

yeah its basically the same as people asking about turboing VG30E or swapping a VE into a GXE, theres been at least a dozen threads since 2000 that answer nearly any question

Yeh I know it was asked, But I'm looking for some up to date info because things change, adapter plates might be made. There also might be someone that did this recently by swapping some parts around. So instead of being so hung up on telling someone that this question has been asked, just help out if you can and stop playing the google police.

I hit the stickies and I printed the swap how to, now I have to just find the right donor.

there are precisely zero people in the world that care about 3rd gen maximas enough to make parts for them anymore. so no, no adapter plates.

and while you technically could put the 4th gen's engine in the 3rd gen if you managed to fix it, it would require a LOT of welding and cutting and stuff, which doesn't really sound like something you'd be able to do.

if you found a normal 3rd gen tranny it would bolt straight on to your current engine, regardless which of the 2 3rd gen engines it actually came from.but if you want the nicer LSD tranny that came on the VE (silverish valve covers, intake behind engine), on a car that came with a VG (red valve covers, intake drapes in front of engine) you will need the axles and spindles/hubs from the VE car as well. If you use a VG manual tranny then you can reuse your automatic axles and hubs.

Either way you have to swap the passenger side axle carrier bracket for one off a m/t car unless you want the axle seal to leak.

It's definitely easier to just do a swap from a 3rd gen, be it VG or VE. The VE has a VLSD and I think beefier axles.

Too bad you are so far away. I still have some of the VE 5-speed swap parts left on my parts car. Front spindles, pedals, master cylinder, slave cylinder. If you want to pay shipping for any of it, let me know. I gotta get rid of the car soon.
