Hey look! It's ME!!

In case any of you are wondering, this is me:

Anyways, do any of you have more than 200K miles on your Max? If so, did you need a new engine/tranny rebuild?

My car has 160k and is still running strong!

92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

on the ol 89.. 191K and some change... she runs great.. 5spd motivated ... at 150K my main and 3rd gear bearings went.. (horrible grinding noise).. Rest of brass (gears/sychros/etc) were all good.. new bearings and she shifts fine.. just now "loosening up".. was pretty tight for ahwile... motor runs great.. no major probs yet (knock on wood)... getting ready to sell it.. anyone interested ..

Wow, mine is a child compared to some of you guys...

I got 93.5K on it now, got the car with 84k about 6 months ago, motha****ing transmission died completely at only 86k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, and it has been feeling like **** for the last 3k! If not for the transmission, everything seems fine, I need a serious tune up though, if I can find the last owner of the car, I would whoop his *** for not taking good care of the car. It doesn't look like it at least...

Sometimes I think the car is too old or has too many miles allready, lol. I need to repair a bunch of sh*t

low miles

okay, high miles and still running is good, but can anyone beat me for low mileage? 93 gxe, only 54,000 miles. the little old lady who gave it up had no idea what she had.

150,000+miles

I have an 89 GXE, excellent shape, 380,000 kms. I use a semi-sythetic 0W30 oil for the winter without any noticable oil consumption. I bought the car from a family member who used the car almost exclusively on the highway. I,ve replaced the exhaust from the catalytic converter back, rebuilt the alternator and brakes, and replaced an O2 sensor. It has the original adjustable shocks. Lots of miles left. I,ll post a photo if anyone is interested.

149,500 miles

I bought my 92 SE with 125,000 about two years ago. It has been a pretty good car, but I had to do the VTC's twice now,(under warantee for the second time)(makes me think about getting a VQ30DE for my max). I still believe that my VTC's are making noise on cold starts, but two nissan dealers think that it is a worn timing chain tensioner. My 5 sp. must have had a leak, because I ended up frying the bearings and rebuilding the transmission.. now its good running with redline MT-90. I have replaced one cv shaft and will prob. replace the other sometime down the road. My brakes have been a major issue. When I got the car, they were fine. When the brakes wore out, I replaced the pads and rotors on the front. I must have gotten poorly made rotors, because they seem warped already with 10,000 miles or so. My brakes shake when I am descending a hill or stopping hard. I used semi-metallic pats in the back and they squeaked for 6 months or so before they finally seemed to quiet down. I still think my brakes make more noise than they should. Also something else to watch for is corrosion in the ABS wheel sensor wiring. One of my wheel speed sensor's wires corroded through inside the sensor, and so I have no ABS until I replace it. I have replaced a wheel bearing also. The Bose speakers, which used to rock are blown and one of the amps seems to be going. My clock is faded out. There seems to be a lot of rattling in the car over rough surfaces. I have a buddy at work that has an 89 with 210K miles and his runs well. My verdict? I love the car. It has plenty of power, room and style. I really think my car is wearing out and I would like to get a new one, but I love the 89-94 body style and the styling of the new maxima is the only thing that keeps me from buying a new one. I am thinking about rebuilding the car for 10 G or so, making it new again, and put a (turbo)VQ engine in instead of paying 25 G for a new one with butt ugly styling.

Re: low miles

My mother-in-law decided her eyes were getting too bad to keep driving, so I got her 90 GXE, two months ago, with 41K.
As nice as the SE's are (92-94 in particular), if I was looking to buy a used car I'd look for another GXE. There are a lot of grandma/grandpa's around here driving them, so you can get a pretty "fresh" one that's never been beat on.

I have 196,7?? miles. I got the car about 2 months ago. I recently changed to oil and filter to Amsoil. I believe that it makes the engine smoother. I have also noticed an improvement in gas mileage. Just as the salesman told me it would. The previous owner did not indicate any major repair work, except for a recent timing belt change (I hope it was the long life one). Said he put about 35-40k miles per year on the car. Was a travelling salesman. He did no do any work himself. He took it to the local Jiffy Lube and a couple of other places like that. The only thing that he forgot was tranny flush, which I plan to do in about a week or so.

I have over 400,000 kilometers (approx. 250,000 miles)

I have over 400,000 kilometers (approx. 250,000 miles) with no transmission or engine rebuild. Actually, my odometer stopped working one winter for a few months, so the actual mileage is somewhere over 250,000 miles. No major engine work done. Replaced a fuel injector last year which was the biggest job ever done. With this kind of mileage, I'm mentally prepared for either the engine or tranny to die at any time which , for me, means scrapping the car. the body and the interior is still great. I bought it with 88,000 km (55,000 miles) on it in 1994. I guess I got my money's worth.

My car is a 1991 GXE with no special modifications.

Re: Re: 150,000+miles

172k miles, original engine, and tranny. Few window regulators, injector harnesses, abs pump, master cylinder, wiper motor, replaced exhoust studs, and many oil changes and tune ups later still going strong. Except for that damned tapping sound from somewhere in the dash (associated with AC) when key is turned.
