The front doors on a 3rd Gen with Bose are 4.5 inch. But check out my page again and look at the bolt pattern. You are most likely going to have to at least drill some holes because I don't think there are any aftermarket speakers that fit the bolt pattern of the Bose bracket.

like i said i already bought 2 subs, an amp, a headunit, and i'm gonna buy the bose harness today. is that all i need to hook everything up? Also, i was just wondering about how much it will cost for wiring everything. i guess just like the wiring for the subs and the amp and then the headunit. would it be cheaper to buy it from the place i'm gonna get the stuff installed at or online at like ebay. thanks again

here you go

here are your options. run all your speakers off amps and not even use the factory harness other than for the antennae like i did or go get the adapter from circuit city, i know they have them. i think the harness kinda limits things because they use crappy wiring IMHO.

I got my wiring harness from Pep Boys for $10. At Best Buy, I think it was like $15.

I think that dnas420 is talking about getting an external amp(s) and using them to amplify the signal to your speakers. You get more power and much cleaner, crisper sound. The other option is to let the HU amp the signal. If you go the second route, then all you need is the Bose harness adaptor.

A stupid question but just in case...

So let's say that you keep the Bose setup and all you want to do is replace the 6x9's in the rear with some 2-ways. Will this work in the car or am I not allowed to just swap out speakers because of the pre amps? I want to upgrade my system, but starting with the speakers. Thanks!

As far as I know, you cannot just simply swap out the speakers and keep the rest of the Bose system. The reason is because the stock Bose speakers run a 1 ohm while almost every aftermarket speaker is around 4 ohm or more. But if you can find some 1 ohm aftermarket speakers, then it should work I guess.

This has been my experience.

Well the Bose HU does not have an internal amp. So you would have to power the new speakers with the preamps (might work). The rear Bose are 4 ohm from what I've heard, but do a little more research and you should find the answer. The fronts are definitely 1 ohm. I don't think that you can start with the speakers when you move away from Bose. The first step would be the HU, then speakers.

Yeah, it should be no problem.

As far as the harness on Crutchfield goes, I'm not sure of the difference, but I do know that the one from Pep Boys works just fine. Perhaps the former makes up for the 1 ohm front speakers. But from what I've seen on my setup, the fronts work just fine with the $10 adapter.
