Sooo im plannin on gettin a aftermarket ****, but the problem is the overdrive switch on the side... they only have like one or soo shifters that work with an over drive button and they look gay to me lol. So what i was thinkin of doin is, wiring the the overdrive button to a switch near the shifter and just using any old **** i want. Is that even an option ? Ive never pulled the shifter apart soo i dont really know what i'd be in for lol

Any thoughts ??

theres one company that makes a dozen or so nice aftermarket shift ***** with the overdrive button but i cant remember the name. starts with a R i think

i was just sitting here and remembered the company i was thinking of, Razo

they still have a few shifters with O/D buttons, i want one myself depending on ease of install

Very nice! These are actually the ones i already saw online and idk.. im just not feelin em but anyways now all i wanna know is about wiring the overdrive button ?? Possible ??

so what exactly do you have to do to install it? and is it like a 10 minute job?

it has an overdrive button. it is a matter of splicing 2 wires and installing the shifter the same as stock. Only thing you have to do, besides simple bolt on, is trim lower cover.

I think it was pretty close to an honest 10 minute job

Sweet Ima go buy one i want and then just wire a new overdrive button near the handbrake or coin holder.

Can you shift manually with these automatic cars?

I mean, I think when I was doing it, I EVEN FORGOT to shift it from 2nd up to Drive.., and IT DID IT FOR ME!

So with that said I mean, is it ok to? I had this conversation with my friend adams dad. He explained to me, with a manual transmission, the gears disengage after you press in the clutch, and then re engage. And thats why manual shifting is ok with a manual transmission.

Where as.., a Automatic transmission..., the gears never disengage. Is this true with an automatic maxima?

And on top of all this I THINK it said in the manual you indeed can shift up with an automatic, and you don't even have to push in the ****, just knock it up one. Then another.

you can go from R to N, R to D, D to N, and N to D without the ****, and i believe you can go 1,2,D without the ****

some people manually shift a auto in racing but i dont really think its the best for the tranny, just 5spd swap if you really need to manually shift that bad

WOW that interior looks nice!! I saw a shifter in Advance auto parts with the overdrive, then I also saw one In the JC whittney catalog. They were like $30.

I just installled the new shift **** today its a universal **** w/o the OD button... ill get pics up here tonight, Super easy install lol kinda surprising... Also if you cut the OD button wires coming from the bottom of the stock shifter the OD will stay in the same position it was in when it was still connected. For example, OD was on when i cut the wires and is still on after cutting the wires. But just for functionality i installed a new switch for the OD.
