Hey everyone, started to notice a problem with my airconditioning/heater fan control....when i turn it on sometimes the fan turns on and sometimes it kicks off...this is the air that comes from the vents....could it be the actual fan motor or the controller?

 

I think it may be something in the controller itself not enough power to it.

 

Maybe I'm not understanding you....cause there's a few things that could be going on. First, check your fuses. Second, maybe it's the fan motor. Was it making any noise before? Really easy to pull out. You might pull the motor and use a volt meter to see what power you're getting to the fan at different speed settings. If you're getting increased voltage as you move the speed dial up, then it's your fan. If you are not getting increased voltage...see below.

Third, it could be the fan switch speed controller/resistor which is located on the side of your air box underneath the dash on the passenger side. You can get to it very easily pulling your glove box. It basically looks like a random plug connecting to the air box. Pull the plug and remove the 1-2 screws holding it in.....replace. Note: typically when this goes bad, the fan will ONLY work on high and NOT on the lower settings. Is this the case or does it not work at all?

If you're getting no power at all and the fuses are good, I would assume it would have to be your fan switch on your heat/air controls.

I have controls, fan speed resistor, and fan motor....for which ever you may need.

 

well mine will work on all settings 1-2-3-4 and heat and a/c work....but like i said when i drive it will randomly turn off....but the lights are still on...hmmm....i am bit confused now...cause it will turn on and off anytime it likes....

 

Then it sounds like a short. Not sure what else to say, especially since it's intermittent. Could wiggle wires going to fan and trace them back through the relay, then to the controls.

I would still pull the fan speed relay and check that out...just my gut.

 

The control unit doesn't provide power to the blower.

So anyway about the blower motor... Often they start to go they will start and stop randomly and sometimes start to burn out the resistor packs that control the speeds. If you can smack the blower motor with something like a hammer (lightly) and make it start it's probably going bad. Might have burnt out some resistors in the resistor pack that controls the speeds as well. Youll know when you replace the motor if some speeds dont work the resistor pack is burnt. Both usually easy and cheap but I've not replaced a blower motor on a third gen so I'm not sure where it lives.

i got a question. im thinking the answer would be the blower relay but im just making sure. as soon as i turn the key the blower kicks on. i push the off button but.. nuthin. lol. it keeps on blowin.. like chromes mom.. hahaha. nahh jk. but yeah. i had to pull the fuses so i dint freeze my *** off in the car. does this seem like the relay?
