These Are My Problems
These Are My Problems
Hi Again,
Here are a few gripes that I have with my 1989 Nissan Maxima SE. I have spent quite a bit of money fixing and replacing and hooking up my Max over the past year. But now there are things that are really ****ing me off that I just can't figure out what can be causing them to happen.
First and foremost is my tranny. For the past year that I have had it, it has never shifted totally smooth. It feels like it kinda yanks from 1st to 2nd gear, the other gears are better but it's not super smooth. I installed the Tranny cooler and my tranny oil is perfectly clean, I just had that looked at. So I really don't know what is the cause of this. It's not a sudden thing it has really been always like this.
Second, when I come to a stop whether it is short or predicted the car kinda loses it's RPM's. I cannot understand that. I put in all new plugs, O2 sensor, had the Throttle Body cleaned, PCV was changed & the car was just put up on the computer and all the readings came out OK.
And it doesn't seem to have the same pep that it used to. I changed most of the important stuff that would give the car more pep. Maybe it's just me but I don't think the car has the same take off it used to. Maybe you guys can help me with the two above problems. I am just lost and ****ed off.

Both of those things that you described sound perfectly normal to me. The 3rd gen autos seem to kinda "yank" into gear at times. Mine does it all the time, especially 1st to 2nd.
The RPM drop is also somewhat normal, you shouldn't lose a TON of RPMs, but dropping to ~500rpms for a second or two when you stop isn't unheard of. As far as the "pep" thing... it's probably just you. I used to think my RX-7 was fast when it was stock. Then it started feeling slow, so I added mods... currently the car is running about 250 - 260hp (218rwhp, about 70hp over stock hp) and it feels slow again.
In order to get it to feel fast agian I'm probably looking at a turbo and intercooler upgrade....
Good luck,
