Actually, Nissan used the vg extensively in 300Zx, pickups, pathfinders, Quest minivans, as well as our beloved maximas for more than two years. There are tons of these motors out there if you ever need one. I even saw a vg in a non nissan minivan ( I think it was a mercury or something), I guess it was a rebadged quest. Another concern with the VG vs VE... The ve is DOHC with 24 valves. Flows better, but adds weight to the top, raising the center of gravity of the vehicle. SOHC motors in general are more durable when highly modified, as there lies some level of dependability when there are less moving parts, about half of a DOHC. Plus, SOHC is lighter and cheaper to build all out. Check this..so you want to get heads ported etc..or even just rebuilt to OEM standards..you have 24 valves and seats to cut, 24 springs guides retainers etc, and 4 cams. With a SOHC, cut that in half. SOHC motors are typically more durable and robust. But the tradeoff must be understood. It really depends on your wallet. Read the 4th and 5th gen forums and check the 1/4 mile times they are runing NA. So there is something to be said for DOHC.

personally I like the VG, its a strong car, not too many major maintenence issues and VEEEEEEERY reliable! plus its been the Nissan workhorse engine since the 80's, plus with a little inginuity( sp?) you can make it pretty quick with some major mods....and the 5spds have a much better chance of making into the 15's easily with regular mods(I've seen it done) rather than us auto VGs who have to struggle a lot more and tinker here and there! go with the VG!
hmmmmmm timing belt (VG) VS the timing Chain (VE) VE wins!!!!! hehehe oh, i hit a 15.4 stock. . . . no mods required!!!
