Quick compilation of parts for my turbo setup

$238-Piping+intercooler+ blow off valve

$585-2.5 air, 3.0 exhaust, 4.0 intake GT35R Turbocharger

(I need to know if this will be a quality, lasting turbo! thanks)

$299- boost controller

$75- 255LPH fuel pump

$250- 300zx turbo manifolds

$399-injectors

Nistune

$399- flywheel 9.5 lbs

$100-$200- Z32 300ZX MAF (fleabay)

Custom welding work and pipe fitting

Does anyone sell a 3" catback for a third gen?

I hope to be pushing around to 370-420 whp mark with this setup. Let me know if this would be adequate or if I am missing something or if I need to upgrade something. Then after this I can get started on my 5 speed swap... after getting a valvebody and bushing and just waiting till this auto tranny dies (I have 20k on a rebuild... I don't see it lasting another 30k with the turbo)

That Max-Redline.com stuff looks to be "fake"/Chinese made. Some people have had surprisingly good success with Chinese/knockoff turbos and accessories, but then again others have had catastrophic failures. Just do some web-searching on fake/Chinese turbos. There's hundreds of Honda and VW threads/discussions about them. Lots of horror stories about turbos lasting only 2 WOT then disintegrating, etc.

I got my intercooler from Johnny Race Car for a decent price and it's good quality. It doesn't look like the website exists anymore so I'm not even sure if it's still around. I got it for around $200 IIRC. It's the same intercooler Brad has/had in his VE turbo setup that put down just shy of 400whp.

I'd think you can probably source used/cheaper Z manifolds on the internetz somewhere if you care to look around/wait a while

But the turbochargers that JWT sells are genuine oem quality stuff right? The GT35r price is not listed.. But I refuse to pay over 1200 for a turbocharger.

Yeah I'm sure whatever JWT sells are genuine. Why are you wanting a GT35 though? I think you'd be hard pressed to find a real one for under $1100 or so.

You should be able to make 300-400 hp out of a T3/T4 or something. I got a Garrett T3/T4 a few years back for about $580ish, but I think they're a little more expensive now.

err that's generally what new GT35Rs go for.
if you don't want to pay then don't bother getting into it.

Looks like they're a bit more expensive now but this is the same turbo Brad92SE has and he put down 389whp at the latest Maxus (his car is a VE though)

Colinod to make 380-420hp it will cost you easily over $5,000 hopefully brad will step in and say around how much he spent in his turbo build. Im not expecting my build ima do to run no less then around probably $8,000 but im not gonna cheap skate my build i rather have quality over a cheap build. Good luck with your build. Research is the key to a good build and there are alot of turbo third gens on here with threads on there builds.

Yes and no. If you have built previous setups and have experience in boost world can get it done cheaper. I have around 2500 in current setup including tuning wideband laptop etc and its capable of 500+

i love reading these threads about people trying to turbocharge a nearly 20 year old vehicle, and then complain when the price to get that much HP, starts to surpass what they paid for the vehicle itself...
