Semi-retiring the VE-5

I've been cheating on my max

On my last trip, I had to replace the max's fuel pump at McDonald's and alternator at Autozone It seems like it's one thing after the other, and I've been getting a little frustrated working on my car since I don't have much time anymore. So I'm putting it into semi-retirement. Of course, I'll still have to take the max out for a spin when I get bored.

After a long debate, I finally bought a used loaded 2007 4Runner Limited 2x4 in great condition. It'll be more comfy and reliable on roadtrips and obviously carry more crap. Cellphone pic of it below:

This forum has been so great ever since I bought my first max in 1999-- a '92 GXE (RIP). Thanks so much to everyone. If I ever decide to let go of my VE-5, I'll put it up here first

Long time brother. Great buy on the 4-Runner. I did the same thing when i got my 335i and had my GXE parked for like 3 months but i also would start it every now and then also wash and then take out for a 2 mile spin and then park it and then get back into 335i and tear the road up with it. Until i noticed that my 3rd gen needed TLC cuz **** started to go wrong while being parked so i had to alternate cars every week. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Im gonna do it again though since now it needs paint and a motor and tranny swap once i get some cash. Good luck with whatever you do with your 3rd gen but i would keep it and just fix or mod the hell out it and leave it as a sleeper.

Your buddy Vevolution should school you in oil filter choices for the VE...son. In fact I picked up a couple at the Toyota dealership yesterday.

Lol school me in what? They were giving free filters with gallon jug castrol oil, I know the az guys aren't famaliar with the D3 code for toyota oil filter..soo he was asking me for which toyota it was for and I didn't know what toyotas use d3's so I jus assumed id ask him for an oil filter for one of the larger model cars assuming it(the oil filter) wld look similar to the D3 one but I was wrong, regardless I wasn't plannin on usin fram..I always go wit the d3 from my knowledge its the most suitable for limiting vtc clack noise no?

The 3rd gen does quite well in the snow actually, if you're not lowered. Care to guess why?

BklnsmoeVE.. We don't! Lol this has been epically out of the norm. It's really put a huge damper on all the Super Bowl festivities. We don't even have snow plows and TX DOT had to bring a bunch in from west Texas.

Augustus.. Is it the LSD tranny? I couldn't drive my blue VE around in this because it's too low. I had to drive my mom's stupid Hyundai Elantra around. It wasn't too bad.. Just all the idiots passing too fast/close and not keeping an appropriate buffer zone between cars. But I did find myself getting pretty squirly/sliding quite a bit!

4WD would have been awesome but hard to find exactly what I wanted and so I settled. But the ride is pretty dope still.

The LSD tranny and the weight of the engine seems to be magic combination.

That's crazy seeing weather like that in Texas, this weather reminds of growing up in Bayside Queens in the 70's/80's. I don't drive my Max in this cause I got the Sentra that I don't care about the exterior. My Max does a lot of sitting as of lately but by choice as I'm working on her. I want my 3rdgen to be like new and I'm getting really close but the closer I get the more I want. Competing with new/newer rides involves much labor/money/time...then there's times that I think to myself if I should go any further. I was thinking about finishing the suspension, putting new wheels on, ground effect kit and call it a day. I'm not sure if I want to get involved with boosting her, I posses the resources but I could buy another vehicle by using that money added to another couple g's. Ghostmax, good luck with new ride.

I picked up a DD replacement for my Town Car over the weekend with this winter in mind - '03 Audi A6 QUATTRO w/ a 4.2L V8. After one trip through the mountains all I can say is FFFFFFUUUUUUUU(dge)... next time I'm wearing a condom.

I LOVE the 3rd Gen's FWD/VLSD combo on the winter roads though. It's saved me from a ditch several times.
