Have to wiggle shifter after putting it into DRIVE for the car to move?

Lately Ive had to wiggle the shifter on my car after putting into the D position in order for the car to actually get into drive and start moving forward. If I dont do that the car stays in Neutral. Is this just a bushing problem or something major? Transmission drives perfectly smoothe and shifts just fine its just a problem when I go to put the car into Drive. The shifter has some front to back play when its in the "D" postion also. Any ideas?

Car is a 93 GXE

mine did that too, its the shifter bushing. cheap easy part to replace. i used to have to rock it in park sometimes and wiggle it down in drive because of the shifter bushing as well

When I put shifter into D(drive) I let go of button and tap shifter downwards sometimes to make sure it goes into gear. I've experienced nothing else as far as shifting from park into any gear or gears changing while driving. Probably the shifter bushing and I'm thinking about changing the bushing. I just had 1 question, coolsun had mentioned a heat shield by the cat...what heat shield are you talking about?. The heat shield between the floor board/cat or the heat shield that protects the cat from rocks/dirt/salt/ect.. I just had to replace my O2 sensor yesterday and while doing so I was thinking bout fabbing up a cat shield, plus a new shield for the front pipe as the original shield is getting old looking.

^ stole that pic from the other thread, but its generally $2-$5. if you want a garage to install it for you it would be probably $50 ($40ish for half a hour of labour+a few bucks for the bushing)

but if CapedCadaver installed one in 5 minutes before going to work im sure its easy lol

well, caped is special. he has(had? does he still have a 3rd gen? i can't remember. but if his email today was indicative, he still does) spent more time under a 3rd gen than driving it
(reminds me, somebody should give him a good kick in the nads for not being around.)

^ IIRC its driveline-less at his place

i dont get not fixing the small problems he had with the 3rd gen, then buying a Z that needs all the work and dealing with the Civic/getting the Subaru but whatever

but again he was one of those guys that knew everything on 3rd gens
