Oil change

Stupid question, but I'm in the process of changing my oil and need some help on how many qts to put in it. My Maxima is a 1992 SE with the VE engine. My owner's manual states 4 quarts when changing the oil/filter. I have 3 qts in it now and on the dipstick it is reading almost full. Last time i changed the oil I used 4 qts and may have overfilled it because it was past the full mark on the dipstick. How much oil does your SE Maxima take when doing a complete oil/filter change?

Thanks.

it's about 4.3 quarts....including filter...

run the engine to fill up the filter..then check the oil level...

Don't base it off the dip stick (as they can be and are frequently inaccurate). Base it off how much oil you KNOW is in there.

Put the extra quart in there then re-mark your dip stick yourself for future reference

Done and done. I went with the Amsoil this time because I'm tired of changing every 3k. Going to run it up to 7,500 miles before changing even though it says I can go all the way to 10,000.

Not trying to thread jack, but ill soon be getting my oil changed as well and im stuck on which oil filter I should buy for my VE. YES ive searched and YES ive read and I know the majority of ppl choose the 4cyl Toyota filter. Ive noticed a lot of ppl saying they go to the dealership to purchase it. Dont they sell them at the auto parts store?

Just trying to find something that will help the wear and tear on my VTCs

I don't believe in changing my oil beyond 5K with 3K being the optimal point. I use cheap synthetic (Autozone or Napa) since I'm changing at the more usual interval. I go to the Toyota dealer and buy enough filters to take me through the year and get a discount while I'm at it. I find the VTC to be quite sensitive to the oil level.

I use a Wix filter or Napa Gold, same thing.

I'll let you know how it works out for me. I'm not using cheap oil and the car is just a daily driver for me anyway. Car has 103k on the clock and has been neglected by the previous owners. If the oil is looking real dirty at 5k I will change it.

I just use Walmart brand synthetic and filter. Oil analysis of the Walmart synthetic shows it to more than hold its own (plus it's made by one of the big boys anyway). The filter also has an anti drain back valve.

I do still change it at 3k miles even with it being synthetic. The one area in which the Walmart wasn't quite up to par with some of the high dollar synthetic was on a bit more breakdown at high interval cycles, hence why I still do it at 3k to be on the safe side.

I really hate Walmart in general but I've had good success so far with this and you can't beat the $20 for a jug of synthetic
