My Maxi!

Hey guys, figured I'd share a few pictures. I know some of you have seen my Max before. It was my older brother's (nforce) before me, and my Grandmother's before him! I bought it off my bro with a noisy input shaft bearing. Since I've owned it, I swapped the old 5spd out and put in a newly rebuilt one I got for a great deal on here, and I've been enjoying it since. Whattya think of the 5+ year old macco paint?

I collect rock critters

Yeah yeah, lower it. I know.

My junkyard shift **** I stained and sealed! The boot is out of a 300z!

Okay so I was looking at the pictures before I read the post and was thinking wtf that looks just like some kid's Maxima I remember from a few years back. I knew the s/n was "force" or something like that. Then I read the post and it made sense.

Was this car originally an auto and your brother, along with the help of Alex_V swapped it? I seem to remember some brouhaha with Alex_V fkcing something up and then denying it, trying to wash his hands of it, or something rather and him getting destroyed on here. Or maybe I'm confusing your brother with someone else.

But that paint is holding up surprisingly well. And even when new it looked much better than 99% of Maaco paint jobs.

Yeah, Alex ****ed my brother hard. He came down to help with the auto to manual swap. Some how the flywheel bolts weren't torqued down and one shot through the transmission. I still have the first transmission he used in our garage. It's got a golf ball size hole in it. A **** storm ensued after. The thread is still here somewhere. It's a pretty good read.

I didn't make that same mistake when I put the one I have now in it. The VLSD is the ****!

It's a burgundy interior.

I remember reading about that car in the past. It still looks good.

In those photos, the interior almost looks a nice chocolate brown instead of the burgundy. That chocolate color would be awesome. I have seen an old Porsche with that and I really liked it.

My son loves rocks. We went to an estate sale Friday and he got some uncut thunder eggs, some quartz, some cool pumice and some other small pieces. No little dinosaur figures, though. haha

Ha, thanks for the compliments everyone. The pictures probably make it look better than it is, but I do my best to keep it clean despite the few flaws.

The interior does look brown, but I always assumed it was burgundy. I suppose it's the lighting. I keep meaning to get some on-the-road shots, but I've just been too busy to make that endeavor.

I've got an overheating issue, and a narly oil leak to worry about :\

overheating could likely be your water pump going out. Is it leaking a little bit?

Mine had that problem when I first bought it. Anytime you would drive it on the freeway or keep air flowing on the radiator it was fine. Anytime you stopped at a light, or went slow in traffic, the temperature would start climbing. It was weeping just a little bit of antifreeze in the garage. Anyway, the water pump was the problem and I had it replaced.

Oil leaks are usually front or rear main seals. Sometimes a valve cover gasket or somewhere else, like the area where the cam sensor is. Mine has a very small leak there and I can't seem to get it to seal up.

Yeah, coolant has been disappearing, but I haven't noticed any spots. I'll have to check out the area around the pump. It's been spiking after longs drives, and when I'm just sitting in traffic.

The oil's leaking the worst from the rear main. It didn't seal right when I put a new one in when I did the transmission. It's also leaking around the oil pan. Fortunately it's summer. I'd never be able to get any of these things fixed during school!

Finally got the Max running again. Replaced the HG, timing belt, and water pump. This was my first time doing major engine work, and it turned out very well. The car runs and drives great.

Painted the intake manifold, added a temp gauge, and wired in a fan override switch to help avoid overheating in the summer heat!

Did you take out the ABS unit on the PS?

It's a full 270 sweep from Glow Shift. I like it quite a bit. Very accurate.

The ABS unit was leaking pretty bad when my brother owned it, so he just had it converted to non-ABS. The unit wasn't hooked up to the lines, so I just unplugged and took it out.
