Engine Light On.....

First real run issue with the good old Maxima.

Engine light came on, car is running rough - Light came on when the car was started, was fine the day before.

The it went out, went a few weeks without any issues -

One again, off again -

Now, it's been on for a few days, thinking about heading to Advance Auto and have them read the codes - I hope that is possible on these cars.

Needs an oil change, don't think that will fix this issue. I'm thinking about checking the ignition first - then injectors........

Hope it is something simple (inexpensive).

Recent (within 10K miles) tune up, fuel filter, air filter, etc. It's a 94 GXE.

Work commute is 80 miles a day, 5 days a week, it's been a great car, hope to keep it that way.

Generally, an actual check engine light on the 3rd gen is commonly an 02 sensor issue. Though I think I've read over the years on VG's that CEL's sometimes accompanied injector issues. I've never had a CEL in my VE with a bad/dead injector, though.

Autozone won't be able to read your codes because you're not OBDII.

You can pull your own codes, though:

could be a injector or oxygen sensor, to read codes you need to do the flash thing, no OBD hookups.

EDIT FUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu NINJA POSTER

pull your codes. report back.

the 3 double-flash is "mode 3"
then when you turn back to the left in mode 3, the reds are the 10's, greens are 1's. So mine was 5 red, 5 green, or 55.

Of course the engine check light is not on now, can I/should I check for codes (memory?)?

Forgot to mention, I broke my ignition key off in the driver door lock.

I work in Kansas City.

My wife was in Maryville at the time, an hour north of where we live.

Where I work in KC is about 45 minutes south of home.

She brought me the extra key.......
