Climate Control Issue?

Me and BklynsmoeVE got caught in his VE a few nights ago in a pretty bad storm and his climate control suddenly stopped controlling the actuator that controls the selector that controls the rod that selects where you want the air to go. Face, feet, windshield, etc. So we were stuck with air to the face, and a dangerously foggy windshield. I was able to select the right setting for him manually from under the drivers side, thanks to a thread that was up a few years ago, but I was just interested in what normally goes bad in these situations. Climate Control unit or actuator? By hand it moves fine..

Its usually the climate ctrl unit itself. I just snatched one out of the jy and swapped mine out.

ah wish i woulda done that before puttting my dash back together. Wouldnt one from the jy be just as prone to breaking again or im wrong as long as its off of a significantly lower mileage 3rd gen?

It's called the "mode door motor" Neither the control unit or the motor are hard to replace. But try the control unit first.

Man everybody loves that sig pic. LOL! To your first question the climate ctrl unit was $20 I believe. To your second question I cleaned the block with a mild acid and the machine shop did the heads. I cleaned the trans actually at a car wash. LMAO! Believe it or not that is about 4 coats of Duplicolor engine enamel on all parts. Actually they do but don't look like that anymore. After my recent delima I swapped the motor (still got the original just gotta tear down and do again). The trans doesn't look as new anymore. Debating whether to repaint or do a semi-polish. I already wet sanded the bell housing. It doesn't look bad now. But since everyone likes that so much I guess I'm inclined to make this one look as good as the pic. "Give the People what they want!" Lol.

That seems harder since its under the car and gets hit by all the elements. I painted mine high temp flat black.

I kinda figured that. Hey I was looking at your sig pic of that photo chopped maxima. I don't think you remember back when I first came into the 3rd gen section 2 years ago and I asked you about the suspension setup on it and you told me it was just photoshop. Now that I look at it that car sits just a bit lower than mine. So I ended up getting that look in the end anyway. I don't have any good pics of it right now but give me some time.
