Engine not starting

Alright, so I got the egnine back in, everything hooked back up an this morning we finally were ready to start it. I turn it over it sputters and rns for about 4 seconds, I think it got up to 600 RPM's. So I turn it ovr again and again and again, it doesn't even start to sputter. We heard a sort of crackling noise after I cranked it again and turned it off over by were the transmission and the engine connect like some kind of electronic thing. You'd think that it would at least kind of fire, because there is gas and spark, so I don't know what the problem could be. If you guys have any ideas or know a place online were I could find out what the problem is that would b great. I'm going to check the ECU next, and see if it tells me anything.

It's a VG, we removed it put new timing belt, water pump, and thermostat on. Also a new transmission.

Are you absolutely, positively sure that you don't have one of the cams in one tooth off? It sounds like you might. Also double check all the electrical connections.

WOuld having the cams one tooth of cause it not to start? I thik there right on, 40 in between the two cams, 43 between the right cam and rank, and 50 between the crank and left side cam. The cams only rotate 360 degrees and there back on right?

Had the baby towed away this morning. Mechanic just called, said he got it started after he cleaned the plugs and started it. The pump is pumping way too much fuel and just flooding it within seconds, that's why it only started once yesterday and never started again. It may be because I replaced the fuel filter that had never been replaced before and the regulator or something might be stuck, anyone had the same problem? Is there anyway to adjust the fuel pressure? Thanks!

You were right one of the cams was off, and messed everything up. He finally got everything back up and it runs great! The new transmission is going great also, no more limping around.
