Fogs as headlights

I was just pondering a idea the other day, and wondered if anyone had thought of it or seen it before..cause im a dreamer. I was thinking of taking 2 circular fog lights and a headlight cover and cutting 2 circles in it and making head lights, one bulb a lower wattage and the other higher wattage for high beams. I just got back from a club so it may sound like a crazy idea but i think if u painted the covers the color of your car it would be cool. What do u guys think, it would be like your own headlights but fogs. I dont know if iyts legal but its not beamer headlights and not hids put into the stock housing.

seems like it would be cheaper just to buy some bmw headlights, buying the fogs, the houseing, harness and lenses, seems to get pricey. maybe wrong, just my thoughts. try it and let us see

it would be kind of pointless...since you'd lose either your high or low beam...fog lights don't put out a driving beam apttern...they put out a fog pattern.... but if you were to do it...it you would need a clear housing, the stock housing is grated and will changethe beam pattern. fog lights have their own beam pattern, you would need a driving light and another light for high beams.

Well i just figured have a high wattage bulb in one of the fogs and rig it to the high beam switch on the column. Yea it might be expensive im just trying to get some thoughts, i would have to make my own housing and pieces to hold them in place, i dont want the bmw conversion but i want somthing different.

I have seen up close an Eclipse 94-99 style, that had the housing seriously modified. The front lens was retained and the back housing was taken completely out. custome plastic cover for the back was made and the owner used CATZ lighting for the project. Circular driving light on the outer corners, and the same stly light in a "fog" application for the high beams. The custom job was very clean indeed. I talked to the owner and was explaind that the process while time consuing(molded fiberglass for the backing) was easier than he though. the wiring would be easy as well.

Example: our 9004 harness is composed of three wires. power for LOW beam, power for HIGH beam and a Ground. You'd simply use the common ground or a new ground for each fog light. The power wire for the high beam would go to one lamp, and the power wire for the Low beam would go to the other lamp.

Personally I would use two driving lights in each housing just aiming the "high" beam a littler higer than the low.

This is an interesting IDEA for our stock GLASS housing, since you can seperate the reflector backing from the GALSS.
I recently purchased brand new Stock housing B/C the BMW thing just did not set well with me. I noticed on my cracked passenger light that there is a reducer/refractor thing inside limiting the ambient light that is emitted. this will definately be coming out ASAP!

Stay tuned for the stock/modified light housing project from yours truly.

Two things Chris..
#1 What is my SMC #? I for got!

#2 definately want to use driving lamps for this project. Good call. Also the stock lamps are designed to burst the beam with the graduated glass. If you get the driving lights very very close to the front of the lens it would work.

his is all very interesting. I have found me a new project.

check out this link:
a 4th gen guy who used some headlight covers and some projectors behind them
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2815/

I had been thinking of getting some clear GTS headlight covers for my car and doing the BMW conversion behind it. (ie remove the cover for the BMW lights and then just put them exposed behind the GTS cover)

its likely illegal, lights need to be almost 2 feet from the ground (22") in cali at least and i know they are strict there,im from NJ and dont know our laws on that, but if you have the same luck as i do with the cops, then you better not go for it
