I'm back. Scored a 90se with 65k!

Hey guys.....its been about 5 or 6yrs since ive been on here. Sold my 92 and have been missing it ever since. I found a 1990 SE with 65,000 miles for $2400 and couldn't say no. I probably paid retail, but money well spent as far as im concerned. The original owner passed recently and his brother was selling the car. Said it was garaged its whole life. Almost perfect interior and I could only find 2 bb size dings in the body. The paint still looks great. It has the stillen kit (or at least what looks like the stillen kit...side skirts look somewhat diff...please help identify) already on it. The guy was in his 60's. Really surprised he put the kit on it.

Only thing wrong.....the tint job is horrible, and I don't really care for the wheels. Oh...and its an auto. However, after spending hrs and hrs in traffic, for the first time in my life, I can say that I'm 100% okay with it not being a 5speed. None the less, stoked to be back on here. I was hoping you guys could help me out since ive been gone for a while.

1.) Any recommendations on exhaust? Old or new, what are you guys running as of lately? Last I remember, magnaflow seemed to be everyones choice.

2.) Would like to lower a bit. struts/springs? been so long I don't even remember what I put on my 92. has there been any camber correction developments?

3.) Looking for a set of 18" black/gun metal five spoke rims. Any recommendations or anyone selling a set? Could be silver (powder coat later)

4.) Anyone know of a good tint place in San Diego / So-Cal. I just moved here so I dont even know where to start.

thanks guys. appreciate any help or any old thread links you can give me

Wow that looks to be in great shape. IIRC that's either the Erebuni kit or Sorona (something like that). It's definitely not Stillen. Funny that the kit and wheels would have been the style for the time. Kit still looks okay but the wheels definitely have to go.

Catback wise you're looking at MES (mandrelexhaustsystems.com) or BRM (brmexhaust.com), GReddy has been discontinued and unavailable for years now.

You're SOL on struts, Tokicos and Konis are both discontinued and impossible to find. You're stuck with KYB's as your best option. No camber kits except the camber bolts (which actually work well for me and I've been running them with no problems for years and years)

You can still find Eibach, occasionally Intrax, and for some reason suddenly lately there seems to be a stash of B&G lowering springs pop up.

The 3rd gen forum on here is also on its death-bed, unfortunately. Glad to have you back though

wow nice find!

Its a shame on the struts.. I mustve been one of the last ones to be able to purchase tokicos, i got mine about a year-1/2 ago and had no issues with the transaction Got them from shox.com i believe. Maybe the inventory quickly depleted right around that time

I see the tint film on your back window has turned to that horrible purple-colored swiss cheese looking disaster, I had the same thing happen to mine recently. The tint shop can fix it but if you want to cut down on some of the labor time (and hence $) peel the old film off and the glue residue can be scrubbed off with a mild scuff pad and cleaner/degreaser spray. I used the white scuff pad and the superclean spray and lots of scrubbing and it worked, and didnt harm my rear defrost lines

Nice find, good choice in buying her. I had found a '93SE w/68 thou for bout same price but let her pass cause I'm attached to my '89GXE. Surprised an old dude had a ground kit installed. I'm sure she has been we'll kept and you'll actually be the second owner I guess. Wheels are better than stock but I'd change eventually. I actually have a brand new set of coil over springs/sleeves that I just got. I won't be needing since I already have a new set of B&G lowering springs that I was fortunate to find about a year ago. Anyway you can have them for cheap if you want them. Anyways, when you get a chance could you snap some pics of interior and the engine bay. Welcome back!!

That is a very cool find, almost a "barn find" with the low miles and the original, undamaged old school wheels and body kit. It's like the car was transported from the early 90s. Honestly, I don't think you paid too much. The car looks mint, has extremely low miles and has a rare, long discontinued body kit.

I would hold onto the wheels (buy new ones if you don't like them, but don't junk them). I know people here don't like them, but it is very difficult to find wheels like that in good shape. They might be worth a decent amount. Think "old school" or "retro" for stuff like that.

I agree that you should take some free time and remove the tint yourself. A shop will charge you about as much to remove old tint (especially off the back window) as it cost to replace it.

If you put new tint on, pay extra for stuff with a lifetime warranty from a reputable shop. You get a lot of sun down there and it will help the interior and stay nice longer. On my BMW, I got Solar Guard with lifetime warranty and I am very happy with it.

hey guys, thanks for all the info and advice. greatly appreciate it. That is unfortunate about the forum, however, based on the replies, id say its still a great place for useful information. Its to be expected tho, with time cars get newer and newer, and ours get older and older.

Ill post some pics of the interior and engine bay soon. I'll prob hang on to the wheels for spares, but if any of you guys really want them, let me know.

Rods03Max619....whats the name of that other shop? I have no problem puttin in some elbow grease and removing the old, but if I can pay someone 2bills to have it removed and redone....why not right? Ill check the other place too, thanks for the recommendation.
shiloh51933....pm me bout the springs.

My bad if your referring to my poor writing skills. Sometimes I try to write everything so it will take up less space in the thread and it ends up all jumbled together. I got the coil over springs from my boy.

the Ebay coilovers for 3rd gens arent even correct, 3rd gens cant use coilovers because of the shortness of suspension travel. i think 3 people have made custom coilovers and modded them to work, but otherwise there isnt real 3rd gen coilovers

That's what I thought myself, my boy had bought them for his 3rdgen. There much smaller than my B&G's and my oem springs. They look like they would fit a '91 Sentra.

This. He's probably talking about those universal "sleeve over" kits that cheap Honda ricers use, but those won't even work on the 3rd gen IIRC

I wasn't referring to your writing skills Shiloh

Off topic but I have noticed a bit more activity on the 3rdgen forum lately, let's keep it up fellas.

So I went to get the old tint removed and replaced today. The back windows never rolled down, i just assumed it was from old sticky tint. Come to find out, the old man that had it before me glued the windows shut! Apparently the motors went bad. and obviously the windows are just gonna fall if I unglue it. I called the nissan dealership across the street to get a price for both regs/motors = $400 just for 1 motor?!?!?! Another $100 for the reg. Granted I found the pair (reg+motor) for $75 shipped and they're on their way. Just an inconvenience. My theory is....the original owner was shocked just as much as I was and said ef it....ill just glue it. From what his brother told me, he wasn't very internet/tech savvy.

So now while I wait for the parts, my car is looking pretty ghetto. black 5% on the back & corner windows. nasty bubbly purple on the rear doors, and grey 20% on the front 2. It's almost embarrassing to drive :/ I'll try and take a pic tomorrow and show you guys.

Nice pick up. I've actually seen glued windows as well. Some sort of silicone adhesive was used, it can be a pain to get it out of the seals. This was on a local member's car, and I gotta give him most of the credit because he was working at it while I was replacing the regulators, swapping the climate control and dash. I don't think he even finished getting it all out before I was done.

Wow, even as a 15 year old on my mom's original 3rd gen I was intelligent enough to figure out a way to not have to freaking glue the glass into the door when her regulators broke. You either take a screw and put it through inner metal door skin right under the glass to hold it up, or just use a coat hanger, hook the curved end under the glass, and then wrap the other end back up over the inner metal door skin and loop it around the door handle support bracket. Both of these ways you can put the door panel back on with no evidence of what you've done.

Are the window channels all screwed up from the glue?

I ordered the parts on ebay, and they showed up at my door 18 hrs later. I've never been so lucky. Picked the car up last night, put the new regs in, and took it right back this morning. All is good now, but I hear you.... who glues their windows shut? I can think of a dozen other ways to keep the window up, but maybe it was raining and he was in a hurry? luckily it wasn't that bad to remove. I just used a flat head between the seal and the glass and used a bit of pressure all across the top and it came unglued. Blade to the window and ran the screw driver throughout the seal and it all came out. Old silicon type stuff. Could have been a lot worse. Pics of old/new tint and interior tomorrow guys. promise.
