here's a tough question - black window lining

the hard black lining that rests between the windows and the door is starting to crack and peel. I'm sure everybody has had this problem at one time or another if you've had a older car. Nothing seems to stop this from ageing over time. Where can i get a replacement for these parts and what are they called?

not positive, but i heard in a recent post that courtesyparts.com (nissan parts distributor of courtesy nissan) has any part you need even if it's not on their site. go there and try emailing them, either way there's cool stuff on there anyway...good luck.

That's the same stuff I used a year or so back. Worked marginally well I'd say. To get any kind of results you have to put like 10 coats on and it still doesnt look like you think it should, and that stuff is incredibly runny. When I first put it on, I squeezed it too hard, and a butt load of that black crap went down the side of my car. All this stuff does is darken/die the molding, it does nothing for the cracks and sun damage.

That stuff costs $15. You can get a brand new replacement from Nissan and the cost is not much more (like $20-25).

The problem is knowing how to remove the old trim. I tried but could not figure it out.

If anyone knows how to remove the old trim........PLEASE let us know.

Brand new window trim for $25??? Where?? Heck, I'd go for all new trim if that's the case. Got any more info on that?

Some people I know used Carbon fiber sticker overlay on top of the trim around the windows. Turned out pretty good.

If all four window moldings are fading replacment can cost over $100+
at your listing price. Besides my windshield and rear glass side moldings are fading also. For $15 if this bottle doesn't satisfy my desire I'll probably go the sand paper route and set aside Sat morning and afternoon to do the job correct. Masking and spraying to the third power I "think" in order for the window moldings to come off the door glass has to be removed.

i'm pretty sure he's talking about the rubber insulation type lining inside the door, and it sounds like you guys are all talking about the wintow trim that's black on SE's and silver on GXE's...

If you have to take the glass out to do it then forget it, it doesn't bother me that much. I'm talking about the black piece on the bottom window on the exterior, not the soft rubber that rubs against the window.

How did the window trim turn out using that stuff in the $15 bottle.

I used that stuff a couple years ago. I'm James92se btw.

All it does is dye it. And it's a very weak dye at that. I did like 5-6 coats, and it was just BARELY darker. It also did nothing for the actual sun damage (you know where it looks kinda crumbly). Soo, even after it, you still have that faded crumbly part mixed with the slightly darker semi-shiny part...

I think that stuff should mainly be used for thin thin actual soft rubber molding. Seemed to work ok on that stuff, but not really on the parts we need it done on (belt moldings - the 'technical' name).

They are called belt moldings and they cost $163.94 for all 4 of them + shipping. I got this straight from Kaleb that works at Courtesy. He posted this a while back on another forum.

Call them up I am going to replace all of mine after I paint my car.

Sorry I'm getting a bit confused.

Belt moldings are the thick moldings at the base of the side windows right?

I'd like to know how to remove these as well as the trim around the front windshield. I remember searching for this last one a while ago, but couldn't find anything. I have to repair some small rust bubbles around there and need to take the trim off first. I hope you don't need a special tool or something to pry them out....

well if you mean the molding on the sides of the windshield you just unscrew them. If you pull up the rubber molding you can unscrew them and pull them right off. Then you can pull the top piece off but you may have to have some glue to put that part back.

yes the belt molding is the black under the windows. I will be playing with taking it off of my parts car (dont want to screw mine up) to see how they come off. I will probably do that this weekend if I have time.

if you want a simple & cheap fix, just scrub some armor-all in there...i just wrap my finger in my armor-all rag and go back and forth along the black trim. Doesnt make it look brand new but its an improvement...just do this everytime you wash it
