engine r&r

i have a replacement 1993 v6engine sitting on its pallet.
i need to know where are the best spots to connect the engine hoist chains/L plates
on the block from anyones past experiences for me to hoist it and connect it to its engine stand.

pretty much anywhere. I used the upper intake, bolted the leveler to the lower intake, and heaved it out of the car.
Then left it that way for an hour or so, then put it on the stand.

I run chain thru the carrier bracket or the engine mount brackets (usually).

I run chain thru the carrier bracket or the engine mount brackets (usually). As for the engine stand mount it using spare trans bolts.

Thats what I use to use but the thought that it would be adding stress to the already weak exhaust manifold studs didn't help. So I decided totry other sturdy parts.

I used the exhaust manifolds..the front one had three broken studs, and the rear had four broken studs. Even though they were broken, it held up fine. You'll be alright mang. Remember to replace those studs no matter what with new hardware. Good luck

Naw. See I don't want to have to replace them if they aren't broken b4 I lift it.

You didn't listen to what he said.. REPLACE THOSE STUDS NO MATTER WHAT. it doesn't matter if they're broken now or not. they are a known weak point on our cars and should be replaced. They're a major pain in the **** to replace while in the car, but 1000000x easier while they're out. It'll cost you $50 and an hour to do it right, or you can do it in the car later and it'll cost the same $50 and take you a weekend. your choice.

Oh I agree. I already replaced them all out of the car. But its EASIER FOR ME to remove the stud as a whole from the head with 2 nuts than having to drill out snapped ones and re-tap/ helicoil for new studs. Thats all I was trying to get at. (Why upgrade everything else and not the exhaust studs that are prone to snapping?) "Work smart not hard."

on stand...thanks

got engine on stand,now stripping parts off blown engine to new/used engine on stand,thinking i should remove almost everything down to knock sensor,all the pain in **** stuff while i have in easiest position i have every got to work on any engine.
any common replacement part job(while i am in there) from experience that are smart to do?
the basic stuff i see,but some replacement parts get overlooked,
have pulled apart 3.0 before,don't want to miss something.
making one good engine outta one blown and one used.
thanks for all suggestions.

I just replaced all my exhaust manifold studs/nuts, I had 2 broken studs and broke 4 more during removal w/motor in car. I had to use an angled drill and remove quite a bit just to get at them. o it now while the motor is out of car...100x easier!!
