How about those new Mistubishi Lancer's. I'm talking about the crap American version. I don't understand how they can market those as a sports car when they do 0-60 in 9.0+ sec and have 120hp! I have a serious urge to find someone that bought it thinking they were getting a sports car. I really want to find someone like that and then race 'em and beat them even though I'm just cruising at normal speed (65mph at 2300rpm) while they are flooring it and trying to keep up! That would feel so good just to make them ashamed of their car. Maybe I'm just sadistic or something.

I just don't understand it. Why do we always get screwed here in the US, by the car companies? After all, isn't there more of a market for performance here? Who the heck wouldn't want a Lancer evo with a 276hp turbo 4?! Now those are fast. Also those Ford escort cosworths in europe. Those also have something like 280hp (not sure on the exact amount) and its a turbo 4. My god those are fast but here they are crap. It just ****es me off since America and Europe is where power and performance originated from. I mean, there are Porsches, Ferraris, Maseratis, etc (all the good stuff!) and then American muscle cars. Did anyone ever hear of Japanese muscle cars or anything like that 50+ yrs ago? I don't know for a fact that they didn't have them but I am fairly certain they didn't. I still wish Nissan would have released the Cefiro to the US. Who here wouldn't want a sports sedan with a RB20det engine?! Oh well, I guess I have to live with how things are but I don't have to like it!

SEguy, did you ever hear or see the "Getaway in Stockholm" movies? The 1st is a Porsche 911 (RUF I think). Though, the 2nd movie has a 450hp Supra and 450hp escort cosworth! Oh my god, that escort has to have the best sounding 4cyl I have ever heard! That car is insane too. He must have had a quick spooling turbo because that blowoff valve was going insane. I mean it was like "grrrrrrrSSSSSHHHHgrrrrrrrrSSSHHgrrrSSSSSHHgrrrSSS HSH" in about 2 sec! If you want to download the movie, I have a link I'd need to find. Though, that movie is about 230mb so I hope you have cable! Its all worth it though because that little 4cyl tears it up.

The reason we get screwed in the U.S is because its citizens (read male) have small *****. They make up for this problem by buying Sport Utility Vehicles. Since bigger is perceived as better, the automakers obliged them with larger SUVs. The demand for sports cars became less and less. Eventually, really great sports cars such as the Supra and the Z were no longer offered in the U.S. due to demand. Naturally, Escort Cosworth's and the like are not going to be introduced for sale when even the Godlike Supra just sits in the dealer's lot.

Thankfully, American are losing their love affair with SUVs. Things like rollover safety, gas mileage and politcal correctness are allowing for renewed interest in sports cars. Thus we have the WRX, the soon to be here 350z, and the new Celica and MR2. Hopefully, sports cars will once again reign supreme for men with something to make up for.

Someone posted it on the General Forum about 2 weeks ago I think. Titled "thought the forum might like this" or something.
