1991 automatic transmission interchangability/compatibility help asap!!!
I am replacing the automatic tranny in my 1991 maxima sohc vg30e and need to know which automatic trannies are intercheangable. I have sourced an auto tranny from a 94 sohc and was told it will work perfectly if the shift control unit is swapped. Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

Anybody else have more information on doing this conversion? I recieved an interchange report from a wrecking yard stating I would need to change the shift control unit (included with the tranny) for it to work. I am concerned this will have ill affects on my ecu/speedo/reliability/sensor compatibility etc. Has anyone done this conversion? I'm between a rock and a hard place because I really only have the budget to have one shot; labor expense wise. If it doesn't work or probs occur after it is installed I am not only having to source another tranny but also pay 500 just to pull it out and reinstall another.
Maxima Automatic Tranny from 1989-1994, a couple of only varying differences. This one is according to Hollander Interchange# 59284B that states it fits the 1989-1993 SOHC, which is the 59284A, by switching out the control box. Can anyone help by personal experience with this conversion? Or is just certain it will work the way it is supposed to? Thanks.

just swap it over, it's that simple....
The only time you need to worry about the shift control unit (and then other parts) is if you are trying to replace it with an auto from a DOHC Maxima.
Also, I think you are stumbled on the year because the 4th gen Maxima was released very early (2/94). So as long as you got it from a 94 model year SOHC Maxima, you will be fine.
PS: Re-posting your question on the Newbie thread is not really helping you.

Actually that's not true. I honestly think the only reason it hasn't been done is the misinformation. Too many people who don't know **** claiming it won't work. PLEASE don't make statements about stuff you don't know, why is that so hard?
the ve auto will bolt up to the vg block, the catch 22 is the vg flexplate will not work with the ve auto starter, it wont reach the flywheel teeth...you cannot swap ve/vg flexplates, due to the ve flexplate is 8 bolt, the vg is 6 bolt...
their was some scuttlebutt some years back about the flexplate from a mecury villager/nissan quest minivans being compatible with the ve auto because the quest/villager vans have the vg engine with the ve auto trans, so it had a flexplate made to accept the ve starter...
but all this is a moot point anyway, cuz then you have to basically rewire the entire engine harness so it will run the ve auto trans....
yeah, too much work imo....

Oh I didn't come off on you harsh so no need to come at me as such. Have a nice day!
